Best oil for a saab 9-5 engine type 2.3t

I have tried alot of oils since i have had this car like motul turbo light, Amsoil 5w-40, and also lubricants engineer, and just wont the most solid oil for the car run oil for 10,000 miles until next. its a 2001 I am also currently in germany.

First of all,

You may want to check out bulletin boards on The SAAB Network -- search and you will find tons of good info specific to your 9-5:

For this year 9-5 SAAB recommends oil that meets ACEA A3 spec. All the acceptable viscosities are listed in your owner's manual. Since you are in Germany, any commonly available 5W-40 synthetic that meets ACEA A3 will be great. Change it according to maintenance schedule in your owner's manual. In US SAAB recommends oil changes every 16000 km if you do mostly highway driving. If your driving consists of frequent short trips, city driving, harsh climate, etc., SAAB requires oil changes every 8000 km.

Id guess that anything they put into the new 9-3 would be good for your engine. That is, an A3 GM-LL rated 0w30 or 0w-40 oil. Your car does not spec the need for a long-life spec oil, but based upon analyses seen here, they are good oils that are pretty robust.

Mobil 1 I believe has a GM LL oil. Castrol also makes a good one.

You might go to a saab or opel dealer, as theyll know what youre talking about.

Being in germany, you have a lot of great options, but the saab oil was or at least used to be held in high esteem here, and at least in the US was a good deal.

That 15k km OCI indeed applies only for a car driven under near-ideal conditions. Typical motorists subject their cars to "severe" driving conditions and need a shorter OCI. I do 5K km on Mobil 1, but I drive a VW 1.8T, which has an infamous propensity toward coke and sludge.

John, if you're doing 5k km on M-1, you're wasting resources and funds unnecessarily. An A3 rated synthetic will be able to do 15k km under any conditions. I'm only dubious of 30 weight A3's making the cut in some engines....eg. BMW

The lowest viscocity A3 approved oil so the engines run the most efficient. I use GC 0w30 in my 1997 SAAB 9000 CSE-T(high pressure turbo) and change every 7500 miles. You could go to a thicker oil if you do a lot of highway driving in the south, but as long as it is A3 approved you are good to go. Too thick of an oil will just kill gas mileage and give you less cold start up protection.

Since you are in Europe what is wrong with Saab 0W-30? Unfortunately this oil is no longer imported to the US.
