Best oil for 1.6 EcoBoost.

My wife drives an escape with the same engine, also short tripped, and I've personally decided to bump the grade up to 5w30, maybe even 5w-40 soon. The reason behind this is the fuel dilution that I've noticed. The dipstick reeks of fuel, and the oil level actually ends up rising by the end of the OCI. Not sure if all the 1.6 ecos exhibit the same flaws, or just ours, but from what I've seen, 5w-20 will be watery with fuel in no time...

Anyways, I'd love to hear other comments on the engine. The current fill in ours is Mobil 1 5w30.

My 77 year old father has the same Escape with the same motor I switched him to Castrol GTX Magnatec 5w30 synthetic. He drives to the supermarket and back 3 miles twice a week so not much at all. I will do a used oil analysis in a few months to see how it looks.

I'm running Mobil 1 5w30 for about 4 more hours in my 3.5 Ecoboost and then it's coming out. My last UOA and others I've seen here on the forum show it's not holding up; shearing down to a 20 grade oil. As Joseph mentioned, these motors have a tendency to dilute the oil with fuel, so it might be more important to change your oil more frequently than the computer tells you.

To answer your original question, the best, most consistent oil I've seen on this forum (in the used oil analysis section) is from Castrol Magnatec. I was going to switch to this oil, but it didn't arrive from Amazon in time so I'm going a different route for a few changes. I'd also recommend running a 5,000 interval and performing an analysis. It will tell you how the oil is holding up and if you have fuel dilution concerns. Of the various vehicles I've owned in the past (mostly Ford), the Ecoboost is the first engine that seems to use up oil faster than the oil life monitor suggests.

Fuel dilution will reduce viscosity in any oil, Mobil 1 or Magnatec. If you know fuel dilution is there,
then start with a grade above the recommended and let it drop to Ford's spec visc.

There is a guy who needs a plug-in full electric vehicle like a Ford Focus Electric with federal subsidies. It does 80 miles on an overnight charge on a 10-amp 120v normal plug. Almost no maintenance. Cheap after subsidies.

I missed your post before recommending the same thing myself: Use Castrol Edge 0w40 and watch the visc drop over a full oil change interval. That oil has the most high performance specs of anything I've seen, and you can get it at Walmart for cheap. ....... Running rich with the turbo and getting blowby past the rings must be whats doing the dilution, I'd guess.

Thanks all! The fuel dilution is a concern.
0W40? Ill look into it.
The Magnatec I put in the Camry made it even quieter.
