Best low cost lawn edger ?

When I was in the market a few years ago, black and decker came out top in the electric ratings.
I believe now the rechargeable electrics are more than powerful and long lasting enough for most jobs.
I know that the Ryobi brand allows you to interchange batteries with other portable equipment eg drills.

I have a Weed Eater Poweredge 550. It's a cheapie, but it works well. It always starts on the 3rd pull when cold. I did have an issue with the hitch pin coming off the axle on one wheel, but fixed that with a cotter pin.
It's about the size and weight of an electric edger and doesn't cost much more. It's definitely light duty, but if that's all you need it works fine.

I have not figured out why people use an edger. But I am out in the country.

They are for trimming the edges around paved sidewalks and driveways. I finally got tired of beating up my string trimmer by using it for edging and a dedicated edger is the way to go in suburbia.

I like the Echo brand stuff. Here in Florida, it's hard to get an edger to keep from clogging up with dirt and grass. So, I generally take the guard off.
A McLane or Tru Cut with a Honda GX gas engine. Buy a good used one and 25 hears later give it to your kids.
Now if you like 100 ft. extension cords - maybe several depending on lot size - and taking 5 times as long to finish, and like to mess with changing string lines and clearing clogs - go ahead and buy electric. And 5 years later, buy another one.

I have a 30+ year old Briggs that I use.
My father had his, eventually went to a 2 stroke edger made by Echo, but for the previous 30+ years he had one just like the one I bought a few years back.
I found mine at a Lawn store that mainly does business to Pro's, and I think I paid $75 for it. I got them to start it and bought it knowing that it would probably outlast me.

I use a brush cutter attachment when edging around the driveway. It seems to work well as long as I'm steady and don't hit the concrete. I watch my neighbor break his out about once a month and use it for about 120 seconds. I guess it is handy to have but I'd rather spend money on something that gets used.
I have a Stihl FC-110 which over the years (all Stihl Professional Series tools) has always been lowest cost, least trouble, longest lasting

I tried many of the cheap edgers (ryobi, troy bilt, etc.) Spent more coin for an Echo PE225. Cuts cleanly in Bahia and St. Augustine/Flortam. Little bugger is powerful. 5 year warranty (consumer) to boot.
