Just looking for opinions and as to why? I don't do anything that I would consider taxing on the computer. Mainly just surfing the web some occasional games and would possibly use it as a GPS system if I travel. TIA

For this price, I'm afraid all laptops you'll find will be quite large and heavy, which begs a question: how portable will it be? If you plan on travelling with it or having it installed in the car, I would look for something smaller, but it'll cost more of course.

Also, you may want to research the availability of navigation software for PC before you take the plunge. Most of the navigation apps have been designed for Windows Mobile/Pocket PC/Symbian, as these are the systems usually used on these small devices.

If it was me, I'd get a dedicated navigation system for travelling and then a basic desktop for home web surfing. You should be able to get the two for $750.

As far as in-vehicle nav, when I need it I just use the nav program on my cell phone.

I actually do the same (plus a bluetooth GPS):

But sometimes I wish the screen was just a tiny bit bigger.

Most of the time just listening to the announcements is enough though.

That Medison is an awesome deal.

I'm going to point that out to some people I know who are wanting to get an entry level machine. If I wasn't full up with computers I would buy one.

Thanks for the link simple_gifts.
