I like Nathan's too, and the new Oscar Meyer Natural Angus Beef are fantastic, no nitrates either.
of course, how you prepare them is important, though I'm open to chili dogs, chili n cheese, sauerkraut and mustard, pickles and onions, etc...

I'm with you..the new Oscar Meyer Natural Angus are my family's new favorite. I like Hebrew National but I wish they would make a regular sized 8 to a pound dog.

+1

I have to agree. Hebrew National hot dogs are very good and Kunzler makes good meat products also.

When I was in Chicago, I fell in love with Vienna Beef Hot Dogs.

Not impossible to get here. Just difficult.

Easier to find Sabrett hot dogs from The Bronx than Vienna Beef here. (I like Sabrett as much as Hebrew National)

Der Wienerschnitzel's beef hot dogs have the right pretzel roll, sport peppers, pickle, and that unnaturally bright green relish, but the hot dog just isn't right.

Now if I could just find a good Italian Beef Sang'wich in DFW, I'd be set.

My hotdog recipe:

Nathan`s grilled, then smoked on the grill for a couple of hours with some mesquite or pecan.

Chili (Nemecheck`'s preferred. If not,Wolf.

Tillamook medium cheddar cheese.

Mustard.

Potato buns.

And the icing on the cake..........an ice cold Corona and lime :^)

That's so incorrect it's ridiculous.

Quote:
Here is Hebrew National’s Beef Frank ingredient list:

Beef, Water, Contains 2% or Less of: Salt, Sodium Lactate, Spice, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Paprika, Sodium Diacetate, Garlic Powder, Sodium Erythorbate, Sodium Nitrite, Flavorings.

And Oscar Mayer Beef Frank ingredient list:

Beef, Water, Contains Less than 2% of Salt, Corn Syrup, Dextrose, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Phosphates, Sodium Diacetate, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Extractives of Paprika, Dried Garlic, Spice, Sodium Nitrite.

They are nearly identical, and both contain Sodium Nitrite. Looking at the nutritional values they're almost identical in calories, and even worse, one single frank contains about 30% of the daily recommended sodium intake.

But if you feel the need to munch on a processed meat product product, chock full of chemicals, all the while pretending that it's a "quality product", by all means knock yourself out.

Oh well, at least that's out of the way.

For my part, I prefer the ballpark angus. They're unhealthy as [censored], but hotdogs aren't health food.

Try Tony Packo's next time you are in Toledo.

That one that I had on the sidewalk next to the park, next to the museum at Central Park was a hotdog to remember...and cost nothing compared to the watery carp that they serve up at my children's school.

oscar meyer angus hot dog ingredients:

That is the truth!.Nathans on Surf Ave in Brooklyn NY has the best Hot Dogs in the entire world.

I like the ones that have no carcinogenic nitrites. I've been buying them once in a while lately and adding them to soups.

I used to love a steamed hot dog from the dirt track speedway with ketchup and onions and a cup of coffee, or a juicy hot dog cooked on a charcoal grill at the beach or back yard.

Hot dogs are just as bad as any other nitrite laced processed meat such as bologna, salami, lunch loaf, veal loaf, olive loaf, liverwurst, etc., etc. It tastes good in a sandwich, but that was decades ago for me. Growing up, my family had hot dog meals quite often, and I loved them then, before I learned the dark side of processed meats.

No, it's not something you would want to eat everyday.
But it's okay once in awhile.
I have a friend who won't let her kids eat fast food, sugar of any kind, or processed foods like hot dogs. I'm convinced that when those kids get to college, they are going to binge on McDonalds McGriddles, Dr Peppers, and twinkies for a solid semester.
