Best handling econobox car ever?

I think I get a little leeway on my tires. I had a '93 Eclipse with the 1.8L. When I bought it, it had aftermarket 14" rims. It was a good college car. I later bought an entire parts car for $200 that had 16" rims. To keep the tire dia similar, I needed 55 walls instead of the 70 walls on the 14" rim. It was a dog accelerating, but the 16" rims made that car feel like it was turning like a roller coaster.

I'm sure the 2.0L engine was much more fun...

I have not read through the whole 9 pages here, but has anybody mentioned the original Austin Mini?

Must be on the list of the most remarkable handling, Rally winning, Eccono boxes of all time.

One of the best handling of its day was the VW Rabbit. Right off the lot they were snug handlers of the road.
I sometimes miss my 81' Rabbit. Here it is in all its glory.
