Best grease for hood latch/locking mechanism?

I am about to replace the hood latch assembly on my A4 because it has become a little corroded and unsightly. The greased part is not accessible without removing the assembly. What's the ideal long-term grease for this application? The new lock has some dark grey, metallic looking grease on a few moving parts. Looks like it might be LiquiMoly LM 47 MoS2 longlife grease. I have a tube of that stuff. Would it work?

That's the side facing the lock carrier. The other side, which contains no lube points, faces the engine compartment.

I was also thinking of spraying the mechanism with liquid wax on both sides.

GM recommends 5w30 engine oil for this mechanism for my Saturn.

Does your owner's manual have a recommendation?

I would use a dry lube as you suggested. Can you respray as needed?

Amsoil spray grease has worked wonders for the assembly in my E30 BMW.

No, the part is greased for "lifetime." The Bentley might say something, but I'm too lazy to pop in the CD.

Once it's installed, I can't spray without removing the lock. I can't spray blindly, because I might soil the alarm's contact switch.

What's good for one Bavarian car will good for another Bavarian car?

If this is a long life situation, I would go for a brake grease if you can get it in there. Ceramlube is my favorite, but I would think one of the silicone greases would work.

Mori its a hood lock spray it with something and forget about it or use whatever grease you have laying around then go clean up all the dam leafs from the storm all over the place LOL

Blasphemy! I already greased the proper spots with brake grease. Now I'm going to apply a liquid wax to the rest!

I use Amsoil MP on mine. I do not like the dirt that grease attracts here in Vegas.

One of the best greases I've found for automotive hinges, latches and general automotive use are the calcium sulfonate based products. They are generaly used for marine applications, but offer great results in salty automotive use as well.

I've bought spray cans of Lubrimatic's Corrosion-Pro at Home Depot, but it's available from marine dealers and on the web. Good stuff and does not get gunky like white lithium stuff.

I replaced the whole locking mechanism yesterday. Here is the old junk:

The purple stuff got accidentally on the old lock when I touched it after greasing the new lock.

By the way, I brushed a layer of liquid wax on the lock to prevent rust.
