Best fuel additive for injectors?

When I was doing my thesis, the yobbo who used the apparatus the year before had decided to study methanol.

As a result, the entire rig was plated with white powder, and the injectors were clogged (Bosch mechanical injectors).

Ultrasonic bath did nothing.

In the end, I used "System 1" injector cleaner at about 10 times the recommended doseage. It was amazing to see the dribble become a stream, and ultimately become a proper spray.

I repeated the results with the spare injector.

That being siad, I usually use Techron.

Acording to my maxima site i'm part of, BG-44 is the best fuel injector cleaner. They say the stuff is used at dealers when they run a machine to clean your injectors.

Have used FUEL POWER for over 40k on one vehicle, and for a number of other vehicles as well. ALL RESPONDED WELL.

The vehicle in constant, high-mileage use is our 2001 Jeep XJ Cherokee. Due to a slightly rough idle -- which I found irritating -- I had DALLAS DODGE perform the combustion clean/tank clean/injector clean as part of other non-drivetrain work being performed.

Result? ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE. Not in "feel" nor in fuel usage.

Vehicle has had a steady diet of MOBIL since new, synthetic since break-in, and annual A-Rx clean-ups. (UOA's posted).

FUEL POWER pays for itself, cleans things up, keeps gas "new", keeps water problems at zero, and gave me ZERO insolubles.

Try a gallon or two. Even with shipping it's cheap.

Sure, you can try a piston soak (I'd recommend LUBE CONTROL since it has worked so well for me on some 25-35 yr old cars; as well as "new"); water and/or MOPAR COMBUSTION CHAMBER CLEANER or AC/DELCO "CLEENS".

Just remember that these fast-acting chemicals MAY NOT be entirely appropriate. LUBE CONTROL "eats" carbon for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I've bought a 2001 DODGE RAM V8-318, and steady doses of LC have been cleaning the top-end (as observed by removing oil filler cap on valve cover). In conjunction with FUEL POWER the idle has smoothed slightly and mileage has been higher by more than 1/2 mpg since purchase. Plus, zero-pinging on 87-octane in an engine with a notorious reputation for such; loaded & struggling, or empty at part-throttle on long-grades.

Aviation ( experimental recip) friends are converting from MMO to LC in the oil and FP in fuels as it works better and is cheaper.

I used to utilize MMO but do not in automotive apps any longer. LC and FP for me too. MMO changes the formulation and it is highly toxic. That is a consideration to someone like myself who has been working with this stuff for nearly 30 years. I am well preserved and that will save tha family on embalming costs !

Techron is a common and effective fuel add alternative to FP but you have to use a highly concentrated amount and it is costly. FP is a better bang in gas or diesel.

Schaeffers neutra and Soy based fuel adds are effective too.

Whatever you decide remember this site would not exist without supporting the business's that fund it. Buying Schaeffers or LubeControl products make your car run well and support BITOG.

Bror, not really, I just like the Soy based esters better !!! The soy stuff costs more.

Some of my customers have said that in emissions testing the soy shield is better. I can't quantify that as their nitration , oxidation, soot solids, and or insolubles are low anyway or I would be adjusting their lube and add regimen to get it there !

I've had some good luck with most of the cleaners mentioned here:

Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO)
Red Line SI-1
Schaeffer 131 Neutra
Isopropyl alcohol (Christy's black bottle)
Chevron Techron

Most recently, I've been using Fuel Power ... but using 2 oz per 10gal tank in a practically new car, I don't expect I'll ever notice a difference. Then again, that's about the best I can hope for.

Terry, did you see a difference between Neutra 131 and the 131C (soy) formula?
