Just a quick FYI...was in the parts store today and thought I would take a look at a couple different filters. One thing that caught my eye is that it seems as though the PF-48 AC Delco filter is not a E-core made filter. Instead, it had a steel center tube and was stamped "ZZ" on the face of the filter mount.

Looking at a Mobil 1 M1113 filter, it has the same "zz" stamp on the top.

The PF48 is not Ecore. At least not yet. The ones I know are, are the PF 46,47,52 and 61.

anyone know why the early 5.3L's take 51522 and the later ones take 51042 (03ish-08). the only difference is 51042 is shorter!

and then on 09's they have a new filter, which is fram ph 10060(equivilant) on the 09 5.3L's. this new filter has a bypass where as the 51522 and the 51042 does not have a bypass (the bypass is built into the motor (99-08ish).

why all the screwing around with the filter changes? and why would they even change the location of the bypass in 09?

just curious? mike

I use the longer 51522 (PF-59) filter on both my 2004 Silverado and on Dad's 2000 Sierra. It doesn't make sense to have two filters for the same application. Also, the longer filter is sometimes the CHEAPER one as well.

I'm also able to use that same filter on my niece's 2000 Pontiac Grand Am with the 2.4 liter DOHC.

One filter.... three applications. NICE!

Can't go wrong with the Amsoil Eao filters for extended drain. That there business, extended drains. Let all the rest try to compare.
