Best engine in 2023?

Tomato tomato. The title of this thread is

Best engine in 2023?

but people are posting stuff from the 60's or 80's, so that ship has sailed. Are you familiar with the car mag Motor Trend? It's not ENGINE Trend.
I am familiar with Motor Trend, young Padawan.
The OP inquired about the best "engine" on the market, not the best EV.

... Longevity, simplicity, ease of maintenance/access?
Using the above criteria as the predominate points, I'd have to say ...
Ford 3.3L n/a v-6 in the F150. Hands down.

Longevity: This engine is part of the Cyclone engine series; a very robust and long-lived engine with no real issues (other than water pump, which I'll discuss later on). These engines make enough power to be very usable, but not so much as to stress themselves.

Simplicity: It's got DOHC with DAMB, no turbo to leak or have wastegate issues, it's PFI, etc.

Ease of maintenance/access: Because it's in a normal truck chassis, it's longitudanly orientation is the epitome of simple. Nothing complicated on this engine and everything's easy to get at. Further, while the transverse version of this engine has some waterpump issues, the longitudinal system is MUCH simpler to work on, and for some reason seems to have fewer pump issues.

Added bonuses: decent economy; aged enough that problems are pretty much non-existent and parts are readily available; UOAs for this engine series shows very lower wear rates historically

I like the 5.7 hemi I own right now, would have prefered the 6.4 SRT.

But if I could pick any engine for my current truck it would be the 3.0 inline 6 diesel duramax from GM. It has everything I'm looking for; fast, smooth/quiet, exceptional MPG, and best for towing.

I would think any n/a V6,V8 would be the longest lasting engines.

The heavy duty diesels found in 3/4 and 1 tons last quite long; cummins, duramax, power stroke, and they're often driven hard and worked to death. But yes after that I'd bet on a N/A v8 any day.

Not a very useful video, but rather more of an advertisement for certain brands.

"Buy a Toyota, you can neglect it and it will still run and last forever!" Uhm no, it won't. But that's what everyone wants: put a little bit of gas in it and run it until the wheels fall off... smh.

Surprised we don’t have a mention of the Volvo white block. They rival and may even best the toyota inline engines in running strong and clean mile after mile.
