Best Conventional Oil?

I prefer Pennzoil myself, although lately in my beater I've been running what's on sale. In my favorites I run synthetic oils, PP and Mobil 1 now.

I thought Schaeffer's 5w-30 was a semi-synthetic.

Of course, some may still argue that Group III oils are conventionals, but that might widen the debate some.

I'd say the best bang for the buck would be MC semi-synth. It's price ranged to be nearly identical (and in many cases below) conventional oils at WM.

Naturally, if I ran across some really banging deal (like $0.49 after rebate) ..it would surely be tempting to take advantage of. I personally can't stand rebates ..but that's just me.

I share Quest's view, more or less. In common usage I just don't think it will make a difference. Now not all SM oils are created equal. They do have to meet the same thresholds of endurance ..but some can meet them better than others. Given the severity of the testing for certification, I'd still say that all of them do a great job.

But the car has 190k miles on it and still runs great, and has never had any breakage due to oiling. I've gone as much as changing it twice a year on Supertech and it was fine. Just make sure it's topped off and don't worry about it. Now I realize that some are anal about it and some cars may require more attention. But the average vehicle will run a long time just as long as it has some sort of oil in it.

You sir , have no place here on this forum . Dino oil and Fram filters , yee gads .

And I agree with every thing you said .

I must admit..........I was a classic orange Fram user for a long time. I would even go up to the counter at the auto parts store are request an orange Fram.
