Brad Penn use Group1 depending on which one you choose, most have it.

+1

I'm astounded by a board that seems to have a PYB fetish but now has a thread where Valvoline is a strong majority favorite... like changing socks I guess.

I think they are all very similar, but my vote goes to Chevron Supreme/Havoline DS. Great GRPII/+ base oils and a killer ad pack.

I hear you, but the fetish here is: THIN IS DA' BOMB!

I respect most any opinion, but anyone who disagrees about the watery thin oil being a MIRACLE is labeled a retarded knuckle dragging neanderthal who is stuck in the 60's. Geeze, people, reciprocate respect!

+1 chevron supreme is my vote, but I do like PYB and the word "fetish"!

Valvoline is "basic oil" to me. Not bad, not good but oil. I dont see a big quality jump between valvoline and napa oil. If I were going to buy an ashland product it would be napa oil.

PYB gets my vote but I agree that any name brand oil changed regularly will make your engine last a long, long time.

When I first came to this board a few years ago Valvoline had a rep for being light on additives. Has that changed?

Based on UOAs I'd say Pennzoil YB and Castrol GTX are the holy grail. Of course there are other good oils out there but those two are the biggest names that jump out at me.

All oils are darn close though. I've used Mobil Clean 5000, pennzoil, valvoline, castrol gtx, formula shell, quaker state and wolf's head in various vehicles in our house with not a single engine problem and some of these engines have seen severe service and high mileage.

I have always been a valvoline person.

chevron supreme is also a excellent oil and I will not think twice about using it. I use it often when its on sale at costco lol. But I prefer valvoline in everything if it is possible just because I was raised that way!

Ok, I will add some fuel to the fire here. I promise i'm not making this up to suck up to Valvoline either(i've never used there conv. but i use Maxlife pretty regularly). We had a customer come in about a month ago that ran there fill of valvoline conv. for 50,000 miles and 3 years, yep you read that right 50k. She acted like she didn't know you were supposed to change you oil. There was about a quart left in the pan and the filter had an inch of dirt/grease built up on it.

Seems like a testement to that oil, or maybe the chryco 2.4. But either way it seems to me that if valvoline was "weak" that the engine probably would've given out much sooner.

Oh yeah, it was a fram filter also!(had that grippy stuff under all of the filth.

I am sure the top brands are all good. I would use Valvoline if I found it on sale, but I tend to lean to YB. YB 5w20 has been a great oil for me on occasion.

I'd use GTX, Havoline, and PYB- in that order. Nothing wrong with Quaker State, Valvoline, or any of the other name brand conventionals though! I've used them all at different times.

I'd vote Valvoline, GTX or QS Dino. I'm on my last fill of synthetic and going back to dino because its cheaper.

Getting married in 2 days, bought a condo, I need all the cheapness I can get.

White bottle Valvoline here I come.
