Best air filter for 2020 Impreza?

Good luck, given manufacturers seem to change construction every other week.. Fit varies by manufacturer as well.

Lots of people here will tell you OEM - but I have had poor luck with my Nissan OEM (made by Mahle) filters.

My OEM Toyota (made by Denso) filters have been great so far.

🤷‍♂️

Can't go wrong with a fram ultra, never had a quality issue and they filter very well. How many miles since you last changed it. Most people who don't drive in dusty roads can really get 55-70k before performance starts to noticeably drop and a new air filter actually allows lots of contaminants in at the very beginning because the initial media loading takes time and acts as a fine filter once it's done which it doesn't have when new. So always changing air filters when they're barely half way clogged actually harms the engine since it's getting more dirty air not clean air every time it's replaced. A dirty air filter cleans the best, just restricts air flow but that's not a problem in daily driving only when flooring it as the extra air does give a real improvement. I over extended a filter change to almost 60k on my sierra which i drive on dirt roads frequently and it was still efficient in normal driving but was down on power a lot when accelerating and would quickly run out of air to breath and shift but now with a filter change it is definitely able to hold the gear for a lot longer and keep accelerating before needing to shift.

I would always recommend the OEM since a lot of the leg work has been tested to work well. However, there are some that have good aftermarket options as well. Try some options but proper fitment is probably the most important aspect I've seen here in the air filter topic. Try a few name brands to see what you think. Perhaps try Fram, Premium Guard, Purolator, Donaldson, etc.

I had a sealing issue with an aftermarket AC Delco air filter on my Subaru WRX. Its dimensions were just a bit smaller than OEM and the plastic frame wasn't completely flat.

Subaru's airbox designs aren't very forgiving to poor filter fitment. I'd pay a few extra dollars for an OEM Denso filter.

I miss the Neon's, they were solid cars, keep it alive and running for many years to come.
Other than having really weird issues with it hopefully. Apparently they ALL have idle air control valve failures, and the shift solenoid goes bad (mine has) and is now still a $300 part to replace.

The solenoid pack on top of the transmission is a common failure point, unfortunately many condemn the transmission and many of these cars were junked for no real reason, you can purchase a solenoid pack on RockAuto just thoroughly clean the area prior to removal.

And yea the IAC is an issue on them but nothing too crazy.

ATF+4 only btw, no universal ATF.

In my years of owning my 98 Impreza I've used Denso, Wix, and Fram air filter. I can't even tell the difference.

This is what came with my Impreza from japan. Probably a Denso with the STi logo lol.
