Agreed. If anything, the sheet steel has gotten thinner, and harder to perform major repair upon. But the production quality is no better now than it was 40 years ago.quote:

Steel for automotive bodies has changed little over the past five decades or more. What has changed is the paint, e-coat, metallic coatings, phosphate treatments, and general surface prep of the steel. This is what varies between makes, models, and even production runs.
PDR guys would have heart attacks if they had to work body panels from the 50's and '60s all day long.
The coating and drainage improvements are what have transformed the corrosion issue.
