Belichick to coach UNC

Oh the state does pay your salary! Base salary is one thing. Problem is, it comes with numerous other stipulations, coaches, staff, and drives tuition through the roof for students that come there to learn and become productive members of society, you know, core mission of university, especially public one.
Private? Give him $500 million, I don't care.
The trickle-down effect of this is insane.
Okay point taken but the football program at UNC is likely cash positive. The current athletic fee at UNC Chapel Hill is $300/semester or year (can't remember). The fee would almost be zero if Title IX didn't exist. The fee is $0 for students at Alabama (2018).

Naw. UNC Chapel Hill charges students less than $300 for the athletic program. It IS more for smaller schools because of the smaller student population

UNC Football is most likely cash positive.
Not so much in the past decade. However, UNC basketball is cash positive and supports all the other sports at UNC.

Well - lovely campus anyway - did management training there
One of my fondest memories of UNC was when myself an a few others were getting towed around an icy parking lot on a tarp. The only reason I remember this is because I was with members of the men's & women's track team and the French daughter of the CEO of Adidas, was on the team and she was simply beautiful. I was a high school senior at the time.

No NFL team wanted BB so BB took himself to college. Coach Prime did pretty good as a college coach. Let's see if BB can do likewise.

He's not even top 5 highest paid in NCAAF.
It is strange but true, 50 mil is not a lot today.

It’s hilarious watching 70’s crime drama shows and they murder people for < $100k. There was even a Law and Order where some woman signed a NDA and got $250k and was living on Park Ave. Seems way out of whack in 2024.

Even for a guy like Bellichick. One would think he’s at a juncture where time > money. I am sure it’s not stress free being a coach. Why do it at that age.

Belichick LIVES for football coaching! There’s many stories out there of 100 hour weeks in his Patriot days. If he wasn’t blackballed, he would have been back in the NFL already. I think his ex-QB minority owner of the Raiders might be interested!

I'm not there yet, but I've been told there's more to life than work. I don't know that because that's all I've done since 22. Just worked over Thanksgiving, cancelled all plans. It comes at a tremendous price to family, and really health. But if that's what he lives for I get it. There's nothing else.

He should have spoken in depth with Nick Saban about how NIL money and the transfer portal has changed the NCAA football landscape.

And not for the better………….
I suspect that the $50M contract was all the speaking in depth that he wanted to hear. His girlfriend seems overjoyed at this deal also.

Imagine how proud gfs mom and dad and siblings have to be. All the wisdom he passes down to her

Edit I got curious and the woman was a student of the New England Hair Academy while attending high school, juggling academics and cosmetology. Then a cheerleader in college. I figured there would be some connection to football.

University of South Carolina (SEC) athletic fee is zero. Still paying for one there currently. The amount of athletic facilities available to every student is amazing - pools, tracks, etc. All paid for by SEC money. So are things for less popular sports. SEC Football / basketball pays for all the fancy stuff.

Everyone wants to be Alabama, but that is one-off. The cost to students in Alabama went through the roof, not because they did not have money to pay Nick, but because they reached a point where out-of-state students outnumbered instate, and costs went up to limit their numbers.
South Carolina is 55% out of state for undergrad. A friend of mine from Philly sent both his kids there. When I asked why he said it was still cheaper than home. Clearly we need to raise out of state tuition some more.

Has any successful NFL coach gone this way with success? He has never coached college at all - so says google.

Its a totally different game, and a totally different approach - your team changes almost every year.

I wonder how much of his contract is guaranteed? After he looses 7 games and the 24 year old moves on, no one will want him there, including him :ROFLMAO:

My 2nd Cousin (NJ) sent her son to Columbia, SC starting this past fall.

This hiring will go down as one of UNC's biggest Epic Failures. Bill's no longer even capable of building a good assistant coaching staff anymore.

UNC has no shortage of epic failures, see also Larry Fedora, Butch Davis and Matt Doherty. I have no dog in this fight other than having attended a rival school. In this case, I wish nothing but success for the tar holes, as it can only temporarily lift the entire ACC conference in terms of buzz and eye balls. My personal hope is NC high school recruits who previously would have committed to UT, UGA, USC or Clemson will look at UNC. A 4 or 5 star QB prospect now may consider playing for the GOAT and being groomed as an NFL prospect. NIL & transfer portal bs can be handled by "general managers" much like trades, contracts, drafts were in the NFL. College football is now more like the NFL than the converse. Urban Myer, Nick Saban (yes that guy), Steve Spurrier, Lou Holtz and Dennis Erickson could not make it work going from college to the NFL and they were no slouches among college coaches. Someone coming from the NFL to college in this day with 6 Super Bowl wins has a good chance of success. Free this guy up to concentrate on X's and O's, it might be interesting.
