A buddy of mine works in Fleets and has just given me a five litre bottle of a rather unusual mineral oil that was given to him by a rep from Fuchs. It is Fuchs Titan Universal HD 10W/30 All-Season.
Apparently it is current product and not old stock though I can find nothing about it on the Fuchs website but on the label it states it is good for cars, vans, trucks tractors and possibly the space shuttle....

It also displays these specs,

ACEA A2/B2/E2
CCMC D4/PD2/G4
API CD/CE/
CF-4/SJ/SH/SG
Allison C4
Caterpillar TO-2
Mercedes-Benz 228.1, 229.1
Volvo VDS
VW 505.00
VW 501.01

Any idea what I have here? 10W30 is pretty uncommon in the UK.

Would it be OK in a petrol car?

Fuchs just emailed me the specs and I have no idea what it all means...

Would it do in an air cooled Volkswagen? Seen guys mention Diesel oils for these a few times.

If it meets Mercedes-Benz 228.1 ( diesel approval) and Mercedes-Benz 229.1 (petrol approval) it's a decent oil.

But

I am afraid these engines require 15W40 or 20W50 . Air cooled means higher oil temperatures ( oil acts like a coolant too) so it must be thick enough .

Well the thing is she doesn't really see any winter miles, just spring and summer though our summers aren't very hot.

It's an okay product, but 10w30 is becoming a bit outdated. Most modern 5w30s will meet or beat it.

Before replying I had to check the date this was posted to make sure it wasn't an ancient thread revival. Why? CCMC specs have been obsolete for YEARS, as has the ACEA A2/B2 category, so the assertion that this oil "is current product and not old stock" can not be relied upon.

What you have there is a 15-20 year old heavy duty diesel engine oil that would have been fair-to-middling back in the day but is pretty outdated now. Good enough for a ditch pump or cement mixer, maybe even an old truck or car which needs just "some oil".
