Beck/Arnley 041-8181 3,323 miles

Hey gang,

This is a Beck/Arnley 041-8181 I purchased from RockAuto and ran on my 2008 Subaru Forester 2.5X. It's made in South Korea. I had used Super Tech All Mileage Synthetic Blend 5W-30 during this run and also have an associated UOA which you can find here. I've also got a video comparing this filter to the blue Subaru 15208AA12A which I hope to get edited and uploaded soon so just keep a lookout if you're interested.

Anywho, not a bad filter, but the ADBV is weak. It's a very low profile design and almost felt like plastic. I had left this filter on it's side for several weeks and it was almost completely drained of oil when I returned to it. I've not had that happen with the blue Subaru filter. If you reference the UOA you'll see insolubles at 0.3 which isn't bad, but wear metals are average on a shorter run. I've got a new UOA on the same oil brand/viscosity from the next 3k miles with the only difference being I used the blue Subaru oil filter and Subaru engine air filter so I'm going to be interested to see if a change occurs in the data. I will post an update as the report becomes available.

Insolubles % never correlate well to ISO particle counts on the same UOA, so I consider the Insoluble % data pretty much useless.

Noted. I'm still going to be interested to see if the next 3k run with the OEM oil filter has a change to wear metals. Hoping to have those results within a week. For some reason it got lost in the mail, got found, and then redirected to Blackstone Labs. It took a wild ride in the US Mail.

A 3,000 OCI is pretty short to try and see any solid changes in wear metals. The +/- changes between UOAs seen may just be in the noise level.

Isn't that nice of RockAuto to drop all reference to filter efficiency at 20 microns? That will likely end my filter purchases from them.

As far as I know the Beck/Arnley never had any efficiency data published on RA or elsewhere. I just took a quick look and they still provide efficiency data on the applicable Wix filter for my car. “99% efficient at 23 microns.”
 
Is this the same as the OE filter but in a different box, usually the MO of Beck and Arnley in years past.

Some Beck/Arnley parts are reboxed OEM products, but not all. AFAIK this B/A is not a reboxed OEM. The only OEM Subaru filters I’ve seen are either made in the USA (FRAM) or Japan (Tokyo Roki). This B/A is made in South Korea.
