Interesting video!!!

2017 3.7 from a Transit Ambulance
220K miles
8K-10K amsoil oil changes

I would NEVER do those long OCI's with these having timing chain and cam phaser issues

Believe it or not, our 3.7 & 3.5 OLMs are routinely recommending 9500 mile OCIs-and I haven't heard of any chain failures. Granted, we only have a couple Transits past 160K currently. Mine gets 7500 with (allegedly) Dexos rated synthetic, I'm not taking any chances with the engine, considering it's going to need a 10R80 someday.

Looks great!! Especially for Amsoil’s mid tier oil.

Certainly some credit goes to the Amsoil lube used, but we cannot ignore the design/manufacture of the Cyclone engines.

The n/a Cyclone engines are quite capable of long OCIs being done safely. The engines run very clean, and are low stress. As he commented in the video, the upper head areas are very clean, no significant wear indications, etc. Tight chains ... etc ... "No wear - looks phenomenal." The fact that this engine came out of an ambulance (severe service) and still looks this good is a testament to the oil and the engine combo.

I've run multiple OCIs over 10k miles and have the UOA wear data to show it's safe, even with conventional lubes. My UOAs are posted here on the site:

These engines in n/a form are some of the best engines out there, from Ford, or any manufacturer. They have good power for their size, wear incredibly well, and run clean. Can't ask much more than that.

This makes me feel better on my future plans to purchase a 2013+ FPIU explorer with the 3.7

Only thing that REALLY worries me are the well known PTU and the water pump(like the one in the video) issues

PTU issue is from “lifetime fill” and being baked by heat. If you use a fluid extractor and do reasonable OCIs you will be in good shape.

Yup, I have had several of these. Great motor. Did have a PTU failure on a 2015 and on a 2017 had a water pump failure at 75,000 miles. Fortunately it was caught via the weep hole during a routine service before the motor locked up. Ford covered it under our fleet coverage warranty. They asked if we wanted to pay for new chains since they were in the motor. Nope, we have not had chain issues, most are auctioned at 150,000 ish. I have debated on changing the water pump out as preventative maintenance on my sons 2015. Supposedly some ford techs can crack the motor and swap these without dropping the motor. The local Ford dealership is at $200 an hour for labor now.....
