Battery Terminal Corrosion

A real copper penny next to the post on top terminals.
It will attract the corrosion and will not fall off (if off roading a drop of super glue).
When totally green replace total cost 2c

yep. It's called crc battery terminal protector. It's in a yellow can and the stuff that you spray on is red and it coats the terminals. They also have crc battery terminal cleaner that works well too. It is a yellow spray that foams up and turns pink when it makes contact with battery acid. It's kind of messy but it works good. I just let it soak on there for 5 minutes or so and then wipe it off with paper towels. You must remove the corrosion before applying the protector otherwise it won't work very well.

Noco makes a kit they carry it at Walmart P/N MC101, it costs a little under $3. It contains two felt washers that fit over the terminals, they provide a barrier against acid fumes that seep through improperly sealed batteries. The kit also contains a spray on corrosion inhibitor that protects the cable connectors. You can learn more at their website http://www.noco-usa.com/pdf/Noco-Catalog-Chemicals.pdf I had a similar situation on my 2006 Milan, the washers and inhibitor kept my terminals clean for 3 years until I sold it. Also if you don't feel comfortable disconecting your battery the felt washers can be cut.

CRC battery terminal corrosion protection seems to work good and is easy to use http://www.crcindustries.com/auto/content/products_ss.aspx?ID=128. They also make a cleaner that will neutralize battery acid on all parts of the battery, terminal, hold down etc. Edit: I see Dan mentioned a similar product after I posted. Vaseline seems to melt off if it gets hot enough. I think silicone or dielectric grease works well too.

I've been using Ideal No Alox, which has zinc particles in a carrier. It's designed for aluminum connections, but should work as well for batteries. Electrical aisle at Home Depot has it.
