After seeing the thread on current AAP discount codes plus an additional mail in rebate, I was entertaining proactively replacing the 6.5 year old AAP Autocraft Silver battery in my Taurus with an Autocraft Gold prior to my luck running out and the car not starting.

Got on the AAP website and punched the car info in and it only pulls up one battery: the Silver size 36R with 650CCA. Even though I have been extremely happy with the Silver, I wanted to go with a Gold this time. So my question(s)are: 1) what other size(s) besides the 36R would fit, 2) should I say that the Silver is an excellent battery for $46.00 with the codes and just get another Silver or 3) just keep going with the current Silver and see how long it goes?

I would buy the silver for $46 to replace the 6 years old, especially winter is coming soon. Cost per year is less than $8.

You don't know for sure when the current battery will die probably in less than a year, by that time they may not have a good discount.

The Silver is far from being a shabby battery, my experience has proven that. However, the Gold has an additional year of replacement warranty. Must be some reason for that.
