Battery manufacturer name list

Everyone thinks Walmart batteries are made by Johnson Controls or East Penn (based on geographic locations of stores) but according to that list, none are East Penn.

I think I'd like to see the manufacturers name on a sticker on the battery to be sure.

But the Everstart MAXX is a decent battery in its price range regardless of who made it.

However if I pay a premium for say an East Penn battery, I want it to say East Penn on a sticker attached to the battery case.

The only batteries that I noticed made by East Penn were the Value Power at WM. Also confirmed by bbhero on here in Virginia and by an email from EP. Of course I was primarily interested in the VP battery so didn't look too close at the MAXX batteries. Bbhero also mentioned that it's the exact same battery that Napa carries but with a longer warranty and higher price tag. First two letters in the model/serial number start with EP on top of battery.

it can be regional IIRC some of the duracell brand at sams club are penn/deka

East Penn is an OEM so don't expect to see their name. The closest you'll get is buying a DEKA branded battery. DEKA is East Penn's retail "brand" name.

I am fine with DEKA as the manufacturer. But "manufactured for Walmart Inc" does not tell me much.

Ahh pictures... Have proven they are East Penn.... And guess what???? EP is in the sticker code.... Ray Charles or Helen Keller would know now there are East Penn batteries at some Walmart stores

^^^^

True.

The VP in my area are East Penn. The group 24f battery I have in both my car and the lady's Camry weigh 41 pounds... Which correlates to the 624fmf battery weight specification. That also verifies the 624fmf code from the infamous Walmart website... Which I did not trust. But the weight did match the higher level 624fmf battery. Aka the East Penn gold series battery. If it was the lower level 524fmf battery it would weigh 37 pounds... Quite a difference. This same unit is sold by O Reilly's and Napa and Federated Auto... 2 yr free replacement warranty through O Reilly's and Napa. 3 year free replacement through Federated Auto.

Most, if not all, sizes of Duracell automotive batteries sold at Sam's Club in my area are manufactured by East Penn. I believe in the wider North American consumer market there's probably wider brand recognition of the Duracell name. However, anyone wanting an automotive battery with the manufacturer's name on the label ought to be able to get what they want via the Internet in this day and age - for a price, of course.

Rockauto for example offers both Exide and Deka branded batteries for my truck. Finding a specific Johnson Controls branded battery may be a more difficult exercise but if it really matters to someone should be worth their effort.

WM Everstart all still Johnson Controls here. Recently saw new aisle display for the Value Power battery which has now added the "Everstart" name in bold lettering to the label. Even though in my observation East Penn seems to be the new bitog darling of battery manufacturers, I'm fine with JCI made. Year and half and VP 24F still cranking. Same for Autocraft Silver Grp35 going on 7 years. Interstate still using JCI afaik.

Recently read a comment on another thread that the EP Everstart 'looks much nicer than the JCI.' Being a battery never thought much about looks. EP batteries are sealed, JCI have caps which allow for adding distilled water. Otherwise with warranty honored, it's battery to me. My .02

Probably should look at other batteries then. This is the whole point of private-labeling any product, not just batteries. The battery is from Walmart, you are buying it from Walmart, Walmart handles any issues with it, etc, etc.

This also gives Walmart or any retailer the option to change suppliers and on the consumer's side, nothing changes. The same 'part #' is applied, the same selling price, even the same labels or at least the wording remains the same. It works out GREAT (for Walmart).

I have had the great pleasure of JC battery throwing acid from the top of it.... Fun... Acid hole in my jeans from that high quality battery... And it missed my good eye by a couple of inches. Granted it should be noted that the stupid Walmart battery area had those batteries way too high off the floor to begin with. That is not safe to begin with.

Thank you for the good info. Does EP make the lower level 524mf battery or does EP only make the 624mf battery for Walmart? Did you have Walmart install the battery for you? For another car I was thinking of going from the group 35 battery to a 24F since it looks like the length is only an extra inch. Other dimensions are about the same.

No problem buddy

I believe the only EP battery in the group 24f size is the 624fmf and the higher level 724fmf battery at Walmart. The 724f battery is the one with a 3 year free replacement warranty and has 700 CCA and 120 minutes of reserve capacity. .

I have the 624fmf battery in my car which replaced a group 35... Fits just fine. A touch tight. But it fits. If it fits in your circumstance then I say roll with it

My battery box was just barely big enough. I'd bet you are right in your circumstance has well.

One thing i do.... is pay attention... And that helps me a lot in my job has well... In fact that has helped me keep people here that would have died if I was not paying a lot of attention to them....

Just got an EP group 65 value battery from a Walmart in NH. Notably, the 2 year warranty model right next to it on the shelf shared every external appearance, but cost $75 instead of $50.

Sadly, this repaces a JC value battery that was only 37 months in service.

Could very well be the exact same battery. You just pay $25 for add'l warranty time.
