What's a good way to unclog it? I bought a snake and it won't fit through the cross part that you screw the plunger into.

I use old bass guitar strings. The first step is to buy a bass guitar and play it for a while. When the strings wear out, you can replace them. Now you have old strings that you can use to clean pipes and unclog tubes.

So to unclog a drain I'd first have to buy a bass guitar, learn how to play it, replace it's strings, then once replacement strings have worn out I can use them to unclog a drain.

hmm, seems logical to me

I poured some boiling water and then plunged it after letting it soak for a couple minutes.

Oh yeah, I've done that before, too. I forgot.
I also did the baking soda + hydrogen peroxide while holding the drain plug tight.

It worked great for me too. When I did it, a slow running drain became plugged completely so I was forced to do something about it! And being plugged completely actually made the plunger method more effective. PS You will need an assistant to hold a plug over the overflow at the front of the sink. We use a face cloth covered with a piece of poly.

So it's not a method I'd recommend, unless you want to plug a drain completely, which is not generally the best idea.

When all else fails, take the U-tube apart.

Snake goes into the tub overflow - above the drain. Remove the cover and snake it out.

Oh that's some nasty stuff! I generally don't recommend that to the average homeowner. It's about one of the strongest acid drain cleaner/opener on the market.

I use baking soda, and vinegar,,,, pour baking soda down drain, about a cup, add vinegar, then a small bubbling will occur and you might have to do this several times,,,its not gonna work like a drive-thru window order at a fast food joint,,be patient.

This didn't happen overnight, unless you bathed a shaggy dog the very-same day. If no dog, then did you-not notice water up to your ankles in the past week or two while showering?
Usually a slow drain comes prior to a totally plugged drain. Preventative measures are the key to stalling, preventing or averting home crises.

Try some Ultra Platinum to unclog it...... 0w-20 should work.

We used to use that at work when some goofball coworker would let a shop towel go down the drain-it would EAT THROUGH the shop towel!! It's strong enough to eat through pipes!
