1969 American Motors Javelin
343 CID/4bl. (Carter AFB)
Borg Warner Model 11 Automatic
I have done too many things to the car to list but it is still mostly an unrestored car. 118,000 miles (believed original)and I am very sure the engine has never been out of the car. It still runs within TSM spec oil pressure and easily above minimum compression in every cylinder (quite even also). However it had a moderatly bad rear main seal leak. I would like to run Auto-RX but I only drive this car on the weekends and it's kept at my parents 60 miles away. Even getting 1,000 miles on...whew don't know when I will do that. It has a two piece neoprene rear main.
I do plan to run Auto-RX, but the oil leak needed attention before that. Hopefully something that would work a lot quicker. So I decided to try the Bars Leaks, as I hold the company in good asteem based on previous experience. In 3 weekends since I have added I have gotten a dramtic decrease in oil leakage from rear main. They state on website something to the affect of expect to see results within 2 days of driving or 100 miles. I would have to agree...pleasantly surprised!

The Bar Leaks Rear Main Seal Repair contains at least 3 proprietary ‘polymers’…..they redid their MSDS (only last month) and it’s much more vague now about what’s in it…but I saw the old MSDS which divulged much more. The car runs the same hot and cold oil pressure before and after adding it. Car currently has Rotella 10w30.
10w30 and 10w/40 were the viscosities originally recommended by AMC in the owners manual. I still plan to use Auto-Rx in time. There are some deposits under the valve covers but for a car of this age I would deem them pretty low.
The car appears to have had 97,000 miles on it in 1980 based on receipt I have from a Dallas Montgomery Wards for a new battery. Car still has the original date coded alternator it left Kenosha, WI with almost 40 years ago.
