The spoof/fake emails look totally legit. Do not click on any of the links or provide any info to them. Call Ebay via phone and find out what's up.

How do you know it is authentic, just because it looks authentic?
I would think if this was legit it would be a long drawn out process. From what some of my friends have relayed to me about issues. And even in this thread.

This seems likely the case - a spoof email that directs her to an ebay look alike where she enters her password for the scammer.
Craiglsist has an abundance of these new "spoof" e-mails as well!

There has been some truth to that in the past. That's why the major companies are striving for competing services. It would be wonderful to have a PayPal alternative. One that could be used, say at sellers that accept American Express.

If it is legitimate, it probably has to do with the fact that it was a cell phone, which is a high-fraud item.
Did the buyer file a complaint? If the seller is banned that should result in canceling the transaction, I would think. When transactions are canceled the final value fees are generally refunded.
I definitely don't think ebay banned her to try to steal $13. Fees are billed monthly on my account and always have been, so they don't even have the $13 yet.

Most of the time when I bid or buy on eBay I receive a phishing email within the next 24 hours. Someone has them hacked.

Whenever I have an ebay related issue that I can't resolve on my own, the first thing I do is... CALL EBAY!!! A rep then instantly helps me with the issue.
If the account was truly locked, call ebay and see what happened. It's very possible that someone hacked her account and did some illegal activities with then, thus ebay locked it, but I doubt they would do that without first contacting you about it.
Something is very fishy here and we need more concrete info regarding this case.

My daughter just spent over an hour on the phone with ebay (mostly on hold). She was explained the account was triggered for suspension since she was a new seller and some other things she was not told about (I suspect it had to do with a smart phone). Then she was interviewed as if she was some kind of high volume seller (they requested info on supplier, warehouse, shipper, and some other nonsense). Then she was told it was all routine for all sellers and she will be reinstated in a few days.
Bizarre to say the least. I don't believe this is a routine procedure for all sellers. I never went through this myself.
My own account seems OK and I keep the fingers crossed. I updated the expired credit card info and hope never get in trouble with ebay.

You have to be Proactive with ebay. There's no way I would link ebay or paypal with my main bank account. I have a credit union account just for them. Balance less than $40.
I buy mostly from Aamzon now and sell on craigslist. Ebay is nothing like it used to be.

Why not? I have my main personal checking account linked to Paypal. My checking account has tens of thousands of dollars in it. I sleep easy at night knowing that Paypal will not go into my account and jack my phone while I sleep... Come on guys, it's a multi-billion dollar company. They don't need your checking account with a few dollars in it.
