Banned from Ebay for life

This just happened to my daughter.

She had ebay account for several years, but bought just a couple of things, mostly books. She decided to sell her phone with cracked screen. She described the cracked screen and put it in "for parts only" category. Surprisingly, someone "bought it now" same day, but didn't pay. She send an email reminding about payment and after a couple of days, reported non-paying buyer to get her $13 selling fee back, that ebay charged her right away. The next thing happened, she got email from Ebay (noreply) that she was banned "infinitely" and no reasons were given except for some vague reference to "security reasons".

She tried to send some kind of email for clarification last night, but not sure if successful.

I had ebay account for over 13 years and never saw anything like it.

Did they ban her just to keep that stupid $13 they got illegally from her?
 
Do you have an Ebay link to the item she was selling? Perhaps someone reading the ad could shed some light on the problem.

Good point. I'm going to ask her what exactly she put in the listing. I don't think the listing exists and her account was deleted IIRC.

I very much doubt it.

eBay can be called directly, which is what i recommend.
 
I've had to open many unpaid item disputes, never had any issues with ebay.

If she still has the email(s) one will likely have the item number is in, might be able to find the listing that way.
 
Make sure her "banned" message was in fact legit,and not a scammer trying to hack her account and info.
 
You need to check the ebay listing yourself. Hopefully it's still there.

It's all in the verbage.

I've known ebay to be fair, but VERY slow when things pertain to claims.

I've had 3 non-senders, and ebay made me wait literally 21days before they'd let me respond to them about what happened. then another week and then they make a decision.

Something has to be amiss for them to do this so quickly.

+1 That's why calling them is a smart idea.
 
Tell her NOT to respond to that banned message. See if she can still log into her account. if all is well,delete the banned message and not even mess with it. If she ever gets anything else that just doesn't seem legit,just delete it.

If the email said she was banned "infinitely", how could that not be a fake? I could have believed indefinitely, but then I would want to read the rest of the words.
 
their is 2 side of story to this. Give us the link of the ad. Ebay dont just ban peoples for life like that. their must be something. Mabe she not telling you everything.
 
How did the screen on the phone break? Have her list it on here.

Go that right. I have had several accounts over the years. Running two right now. keep one step ahead of them.
 
If be worried about scams and spear phishing personally. Don't know what other passwords or info she has given out. Honestly this stuff will only get worse.

Hope it turns out ok for her. Wonder if security was some kind of DoS export restriction that got flagged. Any info on the supposed buyer? From a restricted country?
 
Go to ebay and see if it looks like she's actually banned. It defintely doesn't sound like a legitimate email.

Don't follow any links in the email. That's often how thy get you. You'll be routed to a look-alike site and they get your info when you type in your username and password or other info asked for on the page.

This seems likely the case - a spoof email that directs her to an ebay look alike where she enters her password for the scammer.
 
You can Google EBAY and or PAYPAL "EBAY phone number" and you will find some phone numbers to call. Good luck finding a phone number to call under EBAY help.

Is it even legitimate?

I "mouse over" almost all links these days and see what the real URL is at the bottom of the browser. When creating a web page you can put any text in the LINK area.
 
The email she received was authentic. She showed it to me. Here is why I'm worried. Since my doughtier lives with us, she shares with us the address, IP address, and the bank linked to her paypal used to be my checking account liked to mine. If ebay pulls a plug on her account, they will also pull plug on mine and my wife's.
They have a policy of suspending all accounts in the entire households.

I don't sell a lot but I certainly buy a lot. I don't feel like moving, changing my name, opening new bank accounts, credit cards, and changing PC just to make eBay happy, or their stupid computer algorithms.
