Time for the big one, Otakon in Baltimore this week! Will be going down with the group from NJ that I'm a part of. Staying at the hilton which is connected to the convention center fortunately.

Finally bought all my cosplay stuff, and I'm excited to get going. Anyone have any suggestions for good bars near the convention center for us to go to?

What I bought for the cosplay-
Basically a stalker from the STALKER series of games.

Side note, who knew that old soviet gas masks were so cheap on amazon?

Awesome! I went back in HS, in 1999. A lot of my friends would go every year, book adjoining rooms; one quiet room, the other stocked with liquor from who knows where, instant ramen and frozen burritos. Looking back, we were probably those annoyingly drunk kids in the back of all the late day events

Sorry I don't know any bars in that area... I have B'more friends but they drink around Hampden... hipsters, lol. Matsuri on Federal Hill has decent sushi and can be fun to drink at though, if you don't mind the usual all-the-same Japanese lagers. It's kind of tiny though.

Each year I see photos from Otakon / Katsucon, I recognize less and less of the shows / games people are dressing up from. Feels old, man! Have a great time!

30,000+ people. You wear cosplay. You take pictures. You go to panels, you buy things. It's a giant nerd-convention- if you will.

Mmmmm, proabably around 65/35 M/F I'd say. Maybe closer to 60/40.

Anime and japanese (or other) video games are pretty mainstream today, shouldn't surprise anyone really. The last few times I've happened to be downtown during Otakon, I've been happily surprised at how much more diverse, by any metric, the crowd is from "my day", lol.

(Of course there's still the huge horrible dudes dressed as Sailor Moon but w/e, there's plenty of great costumes going on too)
