Ballpark cost of a dealership knock sensor replacement?

I called my local dealership today in regards to a TSB covering a bad knock sensor or a possible pcm software upgrade.

They were able to tell that the pcm software update would be $190, but no estimate on the knock sensor because it could either be the sensor or harness.

The car is a 2019 Malibu LT 1.5 Turbo.

Anyone got any idea how much such an issue would cost?

For further info, I've got a engine hesitation and loss of power that is intermittent. No CEL because I'm not dumb enough to drive it under hardly any power.

See if you can get any cooperation from GM if there is a TSB on it. It doesn't hurt to ask. You are not going it for free-but sometimes you can get a reduced rate.

A TSB is not a recall, it won't be performed unless the dealer has verified the issue and confirmed the TSB is the correct repair. Asking for assistance from GM without a diagnostic won't get you anywhere.
You are right. I wasn't clear. The dealership will have to find the problem first. They can't cooperate on an yet to be determined issue. There is a chance he may get some "cooperation".
BTW-that's the word I always use-and have been successful in the past.

TSB's are not recalls. They are issued to assist dealer technicians deal with common problems. Therefore TSB's are not free if you are out of warranty.

Request an estimate for diagnostic work (which they usually do) and for repairs if you choose to have it done.

Repair Pal says to expect $150-$180 for the knock sensor to be replaced. I have no idea how accurate that is but that's what they estimate.

edit: NAPA estimate is $150-$380.

I don't think that applies to dealership service centers. Most likely independent garages.

Well that's what I wanted to know, if the knock sensor was under the turbo. Based on the price it isn't. If it was they'd likely be removing the head.

Where is posted anyone said they were "free"?

The local Ford dealer here charges $250.00/hour. I would imagine the Chevrolet Dealer isn't far behind that rate-or at it. And that's usually the minimum they bill-an hour.
