Baldwin B2-HPG vs. Amsoil SDF15

I have been doing some research for myself, which might help the group. I have found out that the Baldwin B2-HPG is a full flow syhthetic glass media filter (maybe you guys already knew). It can be used as an oil filter or hydralic filter (yes or no)

. It surpass the Mobil 1 filter - no problem - and is probabley cheaper.

It can be used with regular oil or synthetic. I would imagine that this is either the same - or similar to - Amsoil SDF15.

I do not know the cost just yet, but I will report to the group as soon as I know any more. With all this said I can not imagine that we will be able to get it any cheaper then a prefered customer gets it through Amsoil.

I also understand now (due to research) - that you must use Amsoils complete line of filters "see tri-guard" in order for their warranty to apply with extended oil drains!

The above information is for those people wishing to maximize their marginal return with regards to oil filters that are not currently prefered customers of Amsoil.

I like to get quality and I like to get it at the best price I can. It cost too much to buy it twice!!!

I'll add my 2 cents....

1) after researching cross references for several years - I have come to one large conclusion: I don't beleive in matches until I lay my eyes on both. I have torn apart SDF-15's...tell me about the B2-HPG. Where is the by-pass valve. I know the B2 should physically match...but the guts?? HPG = HP glass???

2) Trigard program applies to going beyond the 25/35K interval (or 1 year) by using 1) Amsoil air, ff oil filter and by-pass oil filter 2) Amsoil synthetic oil and 3) Oil analysis. It has nothing to do with warranty of the product and using Amsoil at Amsoil recommended change intervals.

Good pick! I was about to order several for testing & my Jeep.

They do mention this one elsewhere in their tech docs as good for lube or hydraulic/ATF. Bypass is @8psi, and front mounted.

I sent baldwin a note Friday asking for their flow/effiency numbers on this and a couple other filters. Will update when they let me know. If you already have it, let us know!

I believe their warranty is okay if you use any filter but change it according to the owner's manual in lieu of 6 months or 12,500 miles if an Amsoil filter. However, whether you use the Amsoil filter or oil makes no real difference, the warranty isn't worth the paper it is printed on, ask them if they have ever paid off on it?

I got some data from Baldwin about their B2 and B2-HPG:
B2--
22 micron nominal ( Beta @ 2 = 2) and 45 absolute (Beta @ 45 = 75)

B2-HPG--
8 micron nominal and 23 micron absolute

(Nominal means that 50% of that sized particle is removed. Absolute means that 98.5% of that sized particle is removed.)

Note that the B2-HPG has a max pressure limit of 150 psi. Both filters flow warm oil at 4 gpm @ 7.5 psi pressure drop. Both have an 8 psid internal bypass valve.
