Is rubbing alcohol sold by pharmacy a suitable replacement? And thanks for the plastic razor blades site. I am going to order them. They would be quite useful in many situations.

Probably one of the most used items in my detailing arsenal second to my APC.

Yeah, regular Iso rubbing alcohol is all you need. Same stuff as you get at the pharmacy. Have a good Holiday!

Mineral spirits is a solvent, often used by painters to clean their brushes of oil based paint. Solvents are ineffective on the resins in tree sap.

Use on cured automotive paint, water based or not, is a gamble. Water is merely the carrying agent used to apply the paint. If anything they're probably less durable than older solvent based finishes.
