You know, sophomoric, obscure - anything to fill out the verse. Heres two to start:

Black Dog:
- I dont know, but Ive been told, big legged woman aint got no soul -

Stairway to Heaven:
- When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed, with a word she can get what she came for -

Superstition:
- Very superstitious, nothing more to say, very superstitious, devils on his way -

Uncle Albert:
- I had another look and I had a cup of tea and a butter pie, butter pie? The butter wouldnt melt, so I put it in the pie -

Don McLean's "American Pie" must blow your mind. Though if you look it up, it all makes sense.

Another gem and arguably the WORST:

Take the Money and Run
- Billy Mack is a detective down in Texas, You know he knows just exactly what the facts is -

My dad can't stand Wings' Live & let die: "In this ever changing world in which we live in"

Not only are the lyrics bad, but the song itself is lousy too!

A lot of the songs McCartney wrote or sang during the Wings days seem to be sloppy like that.

McLean was once asked what the song means, he said "It means I don't have to work anymore"

I must admit that I never understood why this song got popular. Promoters, I guess. It ends up being an iconic audio memory trigger. 20+ years later someone is telling me the back story on it. For me it was a "You mean you didn't ask for that 5 minutes of your life back"? type deal. Like what would compel you to "figure it out"?

I add it to the list of traditionally bad music. Sorta like KC and the Sunshine Band being played at wedding receptions. You were force fed that too. Now it's a conditioned response audio memory trigger.

Not sure if it was ever a Top Ten, probably not, but this double "rhyme" has always bothered me....pretty lazy.

"Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses"

From the song "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath. Considering the times it came out in and the history of the the two WW's of teh 20th C. then Korea and then 'Nam, I always thought it was pretty apt. You really need to watch one of the videos with that song complete with news stills from the various world war theaters and get the full impact.

Must be a generational thing, remember and loved that song when it first came out, and still do. Even if it was a couple of years before I understood the back story to it. And I don't think you are that much older than me Gary, but just enough to not appreciate it

There was a brief hiatus in the 70's where the air play wasn't dictated by what 15 year old girls would sing while walking down the street after school.

Agreed, I have no problem with the message.

But who rhymes "masses" with "masses" in succeeding lines? The rest of the stanza doesn't follow that form and rhymes in a sensical and logical way.....

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerer of death's construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds

Masses, then masses is out of place is all I'm saying.

ah, I see now.... mmm, I'm bad at making things rhyme, what else would fit that rhymes with masses, I can't think of anything right now.

I was hoping to stay away from bubblegum:

Shannon:

SHANNON IS GONE I HOPE SHE'S DRIFTING OUT TO SEA
SHE ALWAYS LOVED TO SWIM AWAY
MAYBE SHE'LL FIND AN ISLAND WITH A SHADY TREE
JUST LIKE THE ONE IN OUR BACKYARD

LOL....I never could think of a better word, and I've given it a lot of thought. I'm dumber than Ozzie....

Seriously though, maybe we need the same type of mind altering additives that he used back then to come up with a good one.....
