bad battery AGAIN

Hello to all,

Tomorrow my 08' Impala SS is getting it's usual lube oil and filter and thank god as my battery just gave out AGAIN!!!! This is not the second new battery replacement in two years. For some reason the negative battery terminal is heavily corroded.

Even though the replacements has been free due to warranty the AC/Delco batteries appear to be trash.

What's going on with my car?????

When I replaced the battery on my parents Corsica the parts person at Auto Zone mentioned something about people tightening the terminals too tight and punching through the battery causing it to leak? I snug them now, but have used a torque wrench. I also have put them too loose and things would not start. Last battery for my Saturn was installed at Auto Zone. He put lube on terminal before installing. That is all I know (or maybe know).

Delco bats seem to not be what they used to be lately for me either. Changed alot of them out this summer. They used to be a great bat 5 years easy out of them

I know batteries are not what they use to be BUT two batteries in two years???? Is it norman for the negative terminal to corrode or should the dealership mechanic use some sort of sealer??

My Delco is still going after 7 and a half years. But it is starting to struggle a bit, so it will b replaced soon...

7.5 years ago Delcos were by far some of the best bats made. Today not so much. About 3-4 years ago i could see them going downhill. It has gottem worse

As far as I can see both posts are the same length. Your not suggesting the dealership installed the cables on the wrong post?

I had double terminals on the positive side and they always loosened and corroded. I replaced my battery with the top and side post design and split the connections and no longer had any problems.

This car is my daily driver and not a garaged for any lenght of time. My issue is the negative post which is corroded. it is a new battery installed by the dealership about 8 months ago.

The positive side can affect the negative post also. I would clean the engine and chassis grounds and maybe add some more. If your battery cable is corroded up inside the insulation it needs to be replaced.

According to the service advisor the mechanic found out that I had a bad ground/connection resulting in the battery has been draining of itself of power slowly through the months. I think the bad connection is associated with the negative pole. In either case they need to order a new battery cable and a replacement of the battery itself free under warranty.

When I finally get it back I'll let you guys know.
