Back to Maxlife

While back I changed my PCV valve and started using Maxlife to see if that would slow down the oil consumption in my Rav. It did and I than dumped in some Havoline on the next oil change to see if it would go back to using oil.--Well it has, not at the same rate, but I will be going back to Maxlife on next oil change (not that Havoline is a bad oil). Changing the PCV valve I think did have an affect also, but Valvoline MaxLife does the job in slowing down the oil consumption for the Rav.

I had the same experience in the Chrysler minivan in my sig. I am going back to Maxlife until the car dies.

How about the new Havoline HM now sold at Walmart? You could try it and see if it performs as well as Maxlife.

Actually thought about that--Been using the red jug Havoline High Mileage in my son's Impala that used to use Mobil 5000-(He has 201,000 on it so switched to Havoline red jug). But I had a jug of regular Havoline so I used that instead. I suppose I could try all kinds of different High Mileage oils, but I think I will stick with Valvoline MaxLife as I have had good results from it. Did think about trying Pennzoil High Mileage syn.blend though at one time.

What you describe is often synonymous of switching brands of motor oils.

But do whatever makes you feel better.

MaxLife is the best oil out there for engines nearing end-of-life, IMO. I know at least one Mopar 5.2 that's gotten a solid 80k (so far) that it had no business surviving, and I largely credit a massive clean-out: oil plug out, pouring gallons of kerosene through both filler caps (one on each valve cover on that era of 5.2) and then a switch to MaxLife.

It had had the typical early production Magnum intake manifold underside leak, was filled with grit and sludge to the point the oil pickup screen plugged and the idjit light came on repeatedly. I would have given it a 20% chance of survival without spinning bearing, but (knock wood) its still plugging along.

Maxlife cut consumption in my son's high mileage Chrysler by a substantial amount. Probably saved his engine as I recently learned the dummy hadn't checked his oil in over 4k on a known oil user despite the occasional reminder from me. Kids!

It was down under the minimum and was 1.5 quarts low, but on the Pennzoil conventional we had been using previously that would have been 2.5 quarts or more over those kinds of miles.

Never a fan of chevron stuff of any kind in situ. It aint the old Texaco Mario's Havoline.
