How about posting some psuedo-scientific studies, to affirm your stance on stretching?

I am sure athletes everywhere will now see the light of day, after all, stretching is a fad -- right? LMAO.

Soooooo...I guess all the professional athletes that stretch before the game are just wasting their time.

Come on Dparm... we are waiting !!

When you are finished posting, please do me a favor. Send said articles to the athletic departments at Northwestern and the U of I, and see what they have to say. I am rather sure they have staffers who will be very appreciative of your efforts.

CC the Cubs, as stretching is probably one of the reasons they perennially SUCK.

Well I'm not sure how we got onto stretching but I'll add my 2 bits.
I played hockey from 5 til 22 years of age. In my teens we had 3 games a week and practice 2-3 mornings a week. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt if I stretched prior to going full blast I wasn't nearly as sore the next day. I was also more flexible and could get into the splits. Without stretching I couldn't split.
I played goal so flexibility as well as quickness and rapid and sudden movements are the norm and if I didn't stretch prior to practice, and warm up I wasn't as quick and I couldn't recover as quickly either.
I needed to get my blood flowing and keep it flowing because once I slowed i remained slow until I stretched again and got warm.
It was common for me to stretch into the splits in between periods just so I could do them when required during the game.
And recovering after practice or games I found that stretching kept my muscles from seizing up tight and lessened the soreness.
If I went from the street to game without stretching or warm up I was in agony. My muscles hurt far more and moving at all required a major effort and grimace.

Flexible hammys and tight abdominal muscles take a lot of stress off the back. My back used to get sore standing at auctions all day....I would sit down and stretch my hamstrings for a few minutes - instant relief.

That's what I'm afraid of. I'll try more stretching.

Back stretches saved my back, especially the cat Yoga exercise. Don't go overboard at first. 've aso found in my life that back tightness/pain corresponds directly with stress and anxiety; get rid of the latter and your back will feel better, but when you're all tight, a good back and full body stretch session can help do wonders.

I have no clue how some can say stretches don't help or prevent injury. That is insanity and anyone who says that hasn't worked a manual labor job in their lives where they actually have to work HARD.

If you know your back pain is from something like disk problems, talk to a medical doctor first, but stretch stretch stretch. It's made my life dramatically better, and the best part about it, once you learn all the good yoga and stretching routines, it's free and you don't' constantly have to go see someone to achieve positive results.

When my back is out I go to my chiropractor for an adjustment. I can feel the difference the next day because it takes a little time for the tenderness to go away. My doctor tells me if it is still hurting after a few days come in again. I have been using him since '96 and he tries to keep the cost down. He is also trained to give animals adjustments. He noticed that my dog was having problems and came over and gave him and adjustment. You could see the difference in no time. I go MD's also when that kind of treatment is needed.

Helen

Helen does exactly what I've been doing for years, the results are undeniable. I've got degenerative disc disease, no cartlidge between L4-L5 and just about all my C's.....all those years of headbanding while playing the drums I guess.....I'll go in for an adjustment and all is good in the universe. Now understand, the notion is not to be cured, but to maintain. I think a lot of people think a chiro can or is suppose to, cure you. They do not. I've seen him do work on people, wife included, that could barely walk and get them moving again. Most chiro's include the healthier living stance and how the body must be in balance, and eating is one thing that is important to good chiropractic help. I feel for ya'll that have had bad experiences and I've visited a few that were questionable, but when you find a good one, worth their weight in gold. All MD's want to do is either inject you with cortizone, spinal injections, or send you to an orthopedic and cut on you....especially if you have good insurance. If you have back pain, your going to have back pain. Learning to deal with it and understand your limits and then maintaining it is the key.

There has been minimal evidence that spinal manipulation and the various chiropractic notions behind it's practice of subluxation (of metaphysical origin) is a sound or viable treatment. While some many find some relief from this, the chances of injury are real. Fraud is highly prevalent within the chiropractic field....and I've experienced it. A simple look into the founder of chiropractic, B.J. Palmer, and his dubious reasons for starting the business (which is what I believe it is...a business), should cause anyone to reconsider it's validity. Chiro also involves rejections of sound medical practices as the business has become closely tied to the 'holistic' and so called 'natural' money making machine.
My real doctor, with years of medical training and experience, has been very upfront and honest with me about my back issues. He has NEVER advised to 'cut on me' or proposed an abundance of cortisone injections. He found the cause of my back pain, and he gave me a course of action starting with the most minimally invasive treatments. He knows his medical specialty very well.
I would NEVER go within shouting distance of a chiropractor with my back problem. Even the thought of it causes me to recoil.
Just my opinion.
