i got used to doing it in flat dress shoes.... because commuting in an underpowered subaru sometimes required it, just to keep up with traffic. it'd throw me off when I wore something else.
I recall taking a 3-series M for a test drive with my SCCA buddy. He was serious about the car and the salesman came with us. we split the driving. On the way back I pulled a 5th-to-2nd heel-toe into the parking lot off a really bad street (high speed, the nature of traffic up there was not kind to folks who gradually braked) and that bimmer nearly read my mind... usually need to know the car to get it to hook up right, but it just *knew* what I was thinking. Smooth. I was shocked at how seamless it was in that car. My buddy, the guy that taught me to do it, was proud too. The salesman was stunned and just said, "how, uh, what, uh..."
it was a neat moment.
