How cute. Came home, went to open my gate and saw this little guy resting near my gate. I thought he was a Gopher snake untill I got a good look at the shape of his head.

Little baby rattler too young to have rattles. I got out my cell phone and took a coupe of pics then scooted him off into the desert.

he has a face only his mother could love.

love the light out in the desert. I'm an outback man stuck on the coast.

Exactly! I'd never kill a snake because it's a snake unless I found him in my tent.

He`s beautiful! I`m so glad you moved him to a safe location so nothing would happen to him.

Baby vipers can't yet control the amount of venom they release when they bite (Adults can), so if a baby bites you, you get as much venom as it is capable of releasing. That's why baby vipers are so dangerous.

That is a desert anaconda, too big for a rattler. Good size. the ones up here that I have seen are smaller . They are dispatched around here .there are many other non toxic snakes to eat vernin to have people and livestock bitten.

I was thinking the same thing, it doesn't appear to be a rattler or in the viper family at all. The photo with the eye visible is the biggest giveaway to me.

Looks like a gopher snake to me.

All the Vipers have very distinctive eyes/brows, not to mention the heat-sensitive pits:
