Question: Will a substantial drop in average outside air temps. cause motor oil to turn dark more quickly? I'm at about 2,800 miles on my current oil (changed mid-November) and I've noticed it's turned dark-brown already. I know this isn't a problem at all, it just has me curious since my oil usually doesn't turn that color until about 4,000 miles it seems. At around 2,500/3,000 miles, it's usually more amber-ish than brown.
During the coldest months here (late-Nov through early-Apr), overnight temps are upper-30's to low-40's and daytime temps are in the 50's/60's (F). The rest of the year, the average temps are 20 to 30 degrees warmer. With the engine running rich more often in the colder months, would this cause the motor oil to get dark sooner?
