Autozone and code checking

I waited for a 40% of AAP and picked up a nice code reader years ago. It has paid for itself and I happily lend it out to family/friends who need it, rather than pay a shop to look it up and charge them.

It has its place, like if you have a sister 2000 miles away who suddenly develops car trouble. Have her get the free scan, write the codes down, then call you for further advice.
 
Code readers are so cheap now everyone should have one. In fact it is worth getting one that will give you a live data list, this can be used for further problem solving. With one of these, a multimeter, and a DIY Alldata subscription you can handle all but the trickiest of problems.
 
I'm not buying one if I can use Advance's for free.

The live data set though.. that could be a deal breaker one day. Pretty nifty tool to have, if needed.
