It does have a tendancy to soften seals which could create leaks it can also clean crud away from hardened seals which have shrunk slightly because of the crud being there and that now allows oil to seep through.
What are you thinking of putting it in, what kind of mileage/maintenance has the vehicle seen?

If there is only 15,000kms on the engine why bother with Auto-RX the engine should be clean I would think unless it was still running on the original fill of oil.
If anything run a quality synthetic oil for a couple of changes and see how it does.

In the vehicles I've tried it in, it was always able to clear up leaks and seepage.
IMO, it's a good product and performs as advertised.

Oh in that case then... Use Auto-Rx with conventional oil as prescribed on their site. That should help soften up the seals.
Once you are done with that run a high-mileage oil for a while then use whatever you want.

15W-40 is just one notch up from the recommeded 10w30. How could that be "way too thick"? Auto-Rx does not cause leaks. However, an engine that was very neglected for oil changes or used inferior quality oil over the years may expose a leak as the seals are cleaned and then seal up later in the rinse cycle or during a second treatment. Look in the oil fill hole at the top of the cylinder head and see how much crud or deposits you can see with a flashlight (torch?) This will give you an idea of how things are from previous owner's maintenance.

Actually one of the claims made by Auto-RX is that it will stop seal leaks, as long as there is no physical damage to the seal. The reason I started to use Auto-RX was because it was the only product that seemed to stop a small seal leak.

Because every N/A 3800 i've owned spec'd 5w30 as the primary grade as most GM cars do
the only 3800 of mine that did not was my '96 SC Bonneville,and that spec'd 10w30.

damam no CAFE here so the 15W40 is fine. Use a full botle RX and run it 8-10,000kms if you think you have a reasonably clean engine?

Really? I thought it would be a bit more than that.
It comes from a trusted source with access to the inside info at the company... (Not Terry Dyson).
I would have thought the numbers would have been way higher if it was amazing a product as their website claims with all the pictures and the way Frank was selling it.
I have had good results with it but these number suggest that there may be B.S. going on with what ARX claims to be.
Not trying to start a war, just wanted to bring the info to light.
