Here were the symptoms: in park, put vehicle in reverse, there would be 2-3 second delay before transmission would engage in reverse, when in reverse, a loud "bang" would occur. between 1st and 2nd gear, hesitation to change gears..would have to rev engine to get out of gear. Then I read about all the great things about auto-rx. Since I was told by a mechanic that the problems was with my transmission was worn internal seals. Auto-rx is supposed to restore old seals. I Decided to try it On my 92 Mitsubishi Mirage 117k miles 4 speed ELC auto. Put Auto-rx in the required amount in the automatic back in 12/03 It has taken five months to reach 2k miles. I went 2k because I had lubegard atf red bottle additive in there with Redline D4 atf. Now guys, this transmission was run hot. ATF was black when I bought the vehicle with 72k miles. Didn't know better then. With the auto-rx in for 2k miles, I didn't notice anything different. Still the loud bang in Reverse. same everything. Until I went ahead and flushed the transmission and I put redline dexron 2 and lubegard red. I put the auto transmission in reverse, I wait a few seconds..guess what? No loud bang! Wow, this stuff really worked!! There still is slight hesitation upshifting but it has improved. I've been enjoying the benefits for two weeks now. I didn't want to make a rush to judgment and post this success story on the first day after the flush. I must say I'm impressed with this product. If it wasn't for this board, I would have never heard of it. Btw, I flushed the transmission when it was cold and used an extra two quarts of flush to make sure I got everything out. I sent a sample of this ATF to oilguard almost two weeks ago. Will post when I get the results.

I suppose I'm being skeptical but couldn't the transmission's improved performance be a result of the fresh fluid alone? I'm sure burned up worn out fluid can't work as well as fresh stuff.

no problem being skeptical. Auto-rx isn't sold in stores. Auto-rx isn't the
only thing I've had done to rectify this. Here's a detailed history:

The fluid was black when I bought the car at 63k miles (6 yrs on original fluid) 10/98 I was starting college back then too. I had no clue, I was told by an ex g/f dad that I leaked black oil all over his sloped driveway. I took it to jiffy lube of all places, and he said that black oil leak is transmission fluid. discovered I had a transmission seal leak. and her dad fixed it for me. Seal probably blew from the overheated fluid. I must have drove around with low fluid causing the loud bang I had with reverse gear.

Changed transmission fluid at 72k miles Feb 99 with Aamco Dexon 3 Pan drop and filter change.
Reverse had loud bang

At 3/01 93k, noticed fluid wasn't cherry red. was darkish brown, not black like originally. thought maybe it was cleaning out some varnish. changed fluid, pan drop, filter change with Aamco Dexron 3. reverse still jerked after fluid change

At 104k, 2/02, fluid turned to darkish brown again, got annoyed and did some research on the net that since the original fluid was black, transmission ran hot. Bought the biggest transmission cooler that I could find. Installed it and it was a SOB to fit in an economy car. Discovered synthetic transmission fluid to tolerate heat. Bought Redline D4 atf, red lubegard atf, flushed transmission through cooler lines, drop pan, filter change. reverse gear still jerked

At 115k miles, 12/03, fluid was reddish brown, after reading several posts here that fluid is oxidized and should maintain cherry red appearance, decided to go for auto-rx. I was told by a mechanic that I had worn internal seals since it ran hot. bought auto-rx, went 2k since I had lubegard in there. 117k 5/04 changed out. the first post describes the results.

I've been told many times that the transmission days are numbered. "starting saving for a new car". I've nursed this transmission for the past six years now. I was the guy who always backed into a parking spot just to avoid anymore damage to the reverse gear. I must add that the reverse gear didn't have that loud bang when the transmission fluid was HOT only when cold. I don't know what the auto-rx did but maybe these contaminates around the seals was preventing the fluid to get to gears. auto-rx restored the seal somehow

As you can see I went through 4 ATF changes in almost 6 yrs/45k.

I had a similar sucess story with a 4L60E, except in my case, AutoRx solved the problem before I got to the rinse stage.

This is just my opinion, but I feel that one of the greatest attributes of AutoRx is the fact that it gently cleans the transmission before the fluid exchange, eliminating the problems associated with putting fresh fluid in and having pieces break loose causing the destruction of the transmission.
