Auto-Rx stops rear main seal leak

My wife has a 1997 BMW 318i that had a rear main seal leak for about 1 1/2 years. The leak started right after I began using Amsoil XL-7500 10W-40. With the same Amsoil oil in the engine I added a bottle of Auto-Rx and saw no change after about six months. At this time I also realized that I had a bad thermostat since the engine was running cold. I have no idea how long the thermostat had been defective since I only rarely drive my wifes car.

The thermostat was replaced as well as several other mechanical repairs being made on the car. When I got the car back from the BMW dealer I drained the oil and refilled with five quarts of Rotella T 15w40 and then added one bottle of Auto-Rx and ran that oil for about three months or 1,000 miles. I then drained the oil and replaced the filter and added 5.2 quarts (five liters) of Rotella T 10w30 motor oil. After about three months I drained the Rotella T 10w30 and replaced the filter and then refilled again with 5.2 quarts of Rotella T 10w30. After doing all of this the car continued to leak.

After another three months or 1,000 miles I again drained the oil and replaced it with new Rotella T 10w30. While under the car I noticed that there was a significant leak coming from the rear main seal. I wiped this area clean and after about a month and a half or 500 additional miles I have not seen a drop of oil anywhere in the garage or driveway.

I forgot to say that this car now has about 72,000 miles. BMW suggest oil changes every 10,000 miles with conventional 15w40 motor oil. Some dealers have been know to use bulk 20W-50. Two years ago when I first bought this car the engine had a significant amount of sludge and varnish that could be seen through the oil filler hole. As soon as I bought this car I put Mobil 1 0W-40 in it for a short time to flush the engine. After a couple of months I put Amsoil XL-7500 10W-40 in and the leak developed soon after.

I think the Amsoil and Mobil 1 removed some of the sludge inside of the engine which latter caused the engine to leak. Since the engine if now free of sludge and has very little varnish I don't expect it to leak again with any synthetic oil.

I noticed the same thing on my car. After I completed two cleanings using Auto-RX on my previous car a seal leak stopped. That is the main reason I believe in Auto-RX. The car was a Saturn SL2. According to what I have been able to find out these cars definitely require an oil change every 3000 miles. I was doing 3000 mile oil changes and I figured the engine had to be pretty clean. And the oil never seemed to turn extremely dark during the Auto-RX cleaning. But the first oil filter I had used during the cleaning did seem like it had started to plug up. And the seal leak simply stopped after I finished cleaning the engine with Auto-RX.

The only thing I can determine is that the seals must have had some sludge on them preventing fresh oil from reaching the seals. When the seals became cleaned up after the Auto-RX cleaning fresh oil was able to reach the seals. And just like Frank of Auto-RX says, the oil filter does collect the gunk.

I had an 87 Mitsubishi pickup truck I owned since new. Over time it developed a rear main seal leak. I did a double treatment with Auto-Rx and the leak was completely stopped.

I had a front main leak on my 99 Nissan Sentra that Auto-Rx couldn't stop. I figured the seal in this case had become damaged and I had it replaced.

I do take Auto-Rx to be an excellent product. I'm using maintenace doses now.

I used auto-rx in a 92 mits mirage. really bad rear main seal leak. it didn't stop it, but it's not the auto-rx fault. when I dropped the transmission, the rear main seal "popped" out. it was 1/8th in the crank.
