Auto-Rx Slays a Sludge Monster - Chrysler 2.7L

Here are some photos (with no scientific testing) of a X2 oil filter after an initial cleaning run of Auto-Rx. The engine is a '99 Dodge 2.7L (known for sludge problems) with around 96K on it. Auto-RX removed an incredible amount of gritty sludge. (I am not sure how gritty and sludge go together.) The oil was Chevron Supreme 20W-50. I will post pictures of the filters from the future stages. (It will be a few months as the miles are put on slowly.)

(Note to others with this engine - if the Oil Light is coming on at idle, there is a TSB to fix it.)

now's thats alot of sludge!! you used 20w-50 with auto-rx? I thought a light oil was needed to get to every part of the engine. but nonetheless, you got a ton of sludge out with the 20w-50

**** ! That is the dirtiest filter media I have ever seen, anywhere. I would wholeheartedly recommend a second, possibly even third ARX treatment for that engine.

Holy smokes, you guys aren't kiding! Might as well have been filtering crud straight from the well!

No seriously, that's amazing! Kind of makes me wonder just what's going on amongst all that cast aluminum, steel and plastic of my engine shell. I just love figuring things out.

It's good to see the AutoRX work so well. But it's disheartening to see that much sludge in a 99 motor with 96,000 miles on it

! It's not like it was only driven on Sunday to church by a little "ole" lady

. Just curious but isn't conventional 20w50 oil a "bit" thick for that engine, especially in NY.

Do you know what the oil/ oil change history of this engine is ...heck i had 150000 on my car and got 1/100th the crap out of it!

The reason for 20w-50 was that the oil light would come on when the car was at idle. Thought it had low oil pressure. Turns out, there was a TSB for this condition. It was a bad wiring-harness (now fixed). Currently, it is running a mix of 20w-50, 10w30, and 5w30. Eventually it will be totally back to the recommend 5w30 (got to use up the case of 20-50 first).

The oil change history of the car is unknown. I got it at 88K and the "black water" that came out when I did an immediate oil change was foreboding.

#1 comment: Your images are great, at least on my old computer.

#2: Wow! It will be interesting to see just how long it takes for the oil to significantly darken during the rinse run... A minute?

#3: A fine example of an opportunity to clean up the engine internals with Auto-Rx for less than the cost of having a $tealer drop the oil pan and replace the gasket! Which, actually, is not a bad idea if you could do this yourself. Imagine what the pan looks like!

?#1: How does this car run? If this all works out for you we'll all be very impressed.

It needs a good dino rinse then another clean. Maybe even a 3rd as I've done on both our vehicles.

Thanks. The car runs OK. I like to think the engine is peppier and has a better purr since starting the treatment. But, that is all subjective and unlike gunk in the oil filter is not easily demonstrable.

The rinse phase makes the big difference IMO. A 2nd clean would not go astray in this engine
