I got my ARX in the mail today. The instruction says to add the first bottle to the used oil and change the filter! The oil in my van is about 4 months old with 5000 miles on it. why should I add ARX to used oil and not clean oil?

Wouldnt work better if I add it to clean fresh oil?

In your case I would drain and add fresh dino oil and filter, like Chevron or SuperTech, and proceed with the cleaning procedure.

I am fairly new to this site and I am wondering if an Auto-RX treatment would have any benefit in a car with approx. 35k which has had regular oil changes. The internals look clean from the oilcap opening. What are your sugestions/opinions?

I am running ARX in a 2000 Sonoma with approx 40k, and am two thirds into the "clean" phase. I notice little or no change, but will keep it in as directed. I had earlier switched to a lighter 5W-20 oil in this truck, which may have been unwise, given my location, which may also be masking any improvements I feel. Hopefully, the ARX is cleaning the internals, which will benefit this engine much later in its life. I am also running ARX in two other older heavy 3/4 ton trucks, and notice a significant improvement in idle smoothness and a reduction in "harshness", which is only an opinion. Therefore, I would have to say yes to anyone thinking of using ARX in their vehicles at this time.

Is it ok to let the ARX run more than suggested 1500 miles? since I am running it with fresh oil should I let it run to 2000 miles or even more?

The filter that I am using is huge. It looks like something a Mac truck would use

I would follow the instructions, which call for 1500 miles. If I remember right, the original instructions were for 750-1000 miles for dino oil, and 1500 for synthetic. Then it was changed to 1500 for all oils, to lessen confusion. Again, follow the instructions, but if you run over by a couple of hundred miles, I wouldnt worry. Just my opinion.

I would not do the full treatment since it is pretty clean. They do specify a maintenance dose (can't remember, is is 3oz per oil change?) that you could do as a preventive I suppose.

Just follow the directions on the ARX website.

If your owner's manual allows, use 5W30's like the 5W30 SuperTech from Walmart for the 1500 run.

pbm - I have done 3 cleans with RX on a vehicle that had 62,000kms on it when purchased. That was after running Delvac 1 and Redline which are high detergent oils. The gunk removed was amazing. Do 1 clean at least then maint dose IMHO.
cheers...steve

where I live we dont have chevron oil. Does any Dino oil works? Should I get thicker or thinner viscosity oil? does it make a difference?

use the oil that is the cheapest (usually ST) and the same weight that you normally run. You're only running this oil for 1500 mi anyhow...

I used the Exxon Superflo that I got at Advance Auto for .79 a quart...

I think ARX's idea is that you can put the stuff in for the last 1500 miles of an oil change, but since you are at the limit. Go with a fresh charge of oil. Use whatever grade you normally run. I would think 10w30 would be good for Toronto summers.

Just get some cheap oil that is rated SL. Citgo Superguard would work, Havoline, probably most of the house brands at local gas stations would work. SuperTech at Walmart. So long as it doesn't say blend or synthetic you should be fine. Frank at ARX told me I could run it with my Valvoline Maxlife (which has 12-22 % synthetic). But he stressed the importance of using a cheap dino particularly for the rinse phase.

BTW: I have never used ARX but am keenly investigating the possibility.

Please follow the application instructions on www.auto-rx.com some of these posts are well meant, however they are incorrect and you can be sure results will be less than expected from using "GUESTIMATES" Auto-Rx Guarantee is based ON THE HONOR SYSTEM. YOUR PART IS TO FOLLOW THE CORRECT APPLICATION" for your engine.Thats all.

PBM,

I wondered the same thing on my 2001 Supercrew with 30,000 miles.

I did the clean phase and was amazed how black the oil was when I drained it. This was BEFORE the rinse phase that I am currently running now.

I cant believe how dirty it looked. I'm very curious now at what the oil will look like after the Rinse phase, because that is where the oil usually shows dirt the most !!
