I'm rebuilding the forks on my Honda GL1800. This is a poorly designed fork, for the weight of the bike, and so it can eat fork bushings in 20k miles. I have already decided on Amsoil Shock Therapy Medium, as I feel that this oil will offer superior protection.

I am planning on putting 1 oz of Auto-RX per quart in the fork oil. Frank confirmed that this is the correct does for this application.

My reasoning here is two-fold. First, Auto-Rx in a maintenance dose should increase the protection capabilities of the oil.

Second, I feel that it may reduce stiction in the fork seals and bushings. I have noticed a reduction in steering effort when I put the Auto-Rx in the power steering unit of a vehicle. This has happened in every vehicle I've used it in, with both recirculating ball and rack and pinion units. It is an instant reduction, and a lasting one. I attribute this to a reduction in low speed sliding friction. The reason I say low speed, is because I've never really noticed any instant change in engine character from putting it in motor oil.

Comments welcome.

Many forks are just bushed too loose which can make them wear, even with new bushings. Might take some measurements while your in there? Some different type may be better or the old trick of dimpling or shims to tighten them.

Used to have a small can of auto transmission seal conditioner and would add a few drops in forks. Not sure it did anything but at the time figured it would.
