Vehicle Spec: Isuzu Trooper 99 Auto
Engine: 3.5L DOHC V6 with hi-flow cone filter
Miles: 130+K mostly highway now
Operating RPM: 2900-3100 highway cruising
Vehicle usageD 100+ miles/weekdays 95% highway Oil Normally Used:mostly dino,some synthetic,5w-30 & 10w-30
Oil Used for this Procedure: SuperTech 5w-30
Filter Commonly Usedurolator Premium/Proline/V-1
Filter Used for this Procedure: Purolator
Oil Change Interval:3-6k miles
Issue: Oil Consumption, 1/4 - 1/2 quart@1k miles.
Actions/Observations:
After filling with 5 quarts of oil + pre-filling oil filter(1/8 quart), the truck is driven about 400 miles.Removed and installed new filter, added bottle of Auto-Rx,topped off oil(1/4 quart). Driven another 100 miles, topped of oil 1/3 quart to top of fill level.Driven truck for 850 miles total and oil level down about 1/8.Drove another 100 miles(550 with Rx,950 total),changed oil/filter.
Drove 810 miles without Rx, removed/installed new filter pre-filled with 5oz oil, added bottle of Auto-Rx,topped off oil with 1/2 quart after 90miles - note: oil seems to be 1/3 quart down prior to filter change;also drained about 9 oz of oil from the filter change. Oil level at add mark at 1295 miles - added 1/2 quart - oil level at 2/3 of full.
Check Engine light came on at about 1135 miles - most likely not related to Rx but to leaky intake manifold gasket and/or oxygen sensor(s). Only problem so far is occassional rpm surging at idle(Park/Neutral) when hot/warm. Will need for a shop to check error code to confirm which part failed.
Will drive about 1000 miles with Auto-RX then do oil/filter change;will be using 2 quarts Castrol GTX and 3 quarts Castrol High Mileage Formula 10w30;might add 3 oz of Auto-Rx at alternate oil intervals(until the 3rd bottle is used).
Used 2, 5quart gallon jugs + 2 quarts of oil & 2 bottles of Auto-RX (2 oil/filter changes + 2 additional filter only changes) @2245 miles. RPM seems to be down just a bit at cruising. MPG is normal-maybe just a bit more. Oil consumption seems to still exist - maybe 5w-30 is too thin? No change in performance(nothing wrong to begin with).
Verdict: I guess its too soon to tell. Will pass judgement until 6-8k miles had been run after the treatment cycle is complete.
