I've read on various sites that some of the GM piston slap issues are due to carbon on the pistons. GM will do an engine clean,to supposedly rid the engine of the PS. If these people used the Auto-RX would this clean the carbon from the pistons? If it would clear up the carbon,it seems like its far easier to do this yourself, than to leave your truck at the dealer for a day to have them do it for you. What do you think?

It could also happen that the engine runs quieter after treating it with Auto-RX making the piston slap all that much easier to hear.

I know mine made a noise this past summer, and it is gone or lessened now when it should be louder. I have used Auto-RX, Amsoill, Neutra 131, and Fuel Power in that order.

In my opinion after Auto-RX quieted down my engine I started to notice the clicking, and about the time of using Neutra it went away. I don't know when why or how? Was it piston slap or noisey injectors?

IIRC,

GM is pulling the spark plugs, spraying a cleaner in the hole, replacing the plugs, and then it sits overnight. After starting the truck in the morning, all the carbon is blown out the exhaust.

im 600 miles into the cleaning phase, hasnt affected slapping at all. I think its not related to carbon in my camaro SS.

I think that GM is claiming that some cases of the "CSK" (cold start knock) are are not piston slap but due to carbon in the combustion chamber...I don't know if they suggest that the piston is striking carbon, or what. Anyway, combustion chamber cleaning isn't what Auto-Rx mainly does.

Stewart Fan,
ARX won't help because it's a mechanical design problem which nothing out there will cure. I tried it on my LS1 and it's still there.

Ken2,
GM is full of sh!**

Well it can clean the exhaust pipe, who knows what it can do ?

I have that cold start piston slap in the morning for the first minute or so when I pull away.

Was there before, during and after ARX. It is a mechanical issue, nothing ARX can do about it.

I just turn the stereo up when I fire her up in the morning.
