Here is partial ouote from Rick 20 and pertains to "clean"

"This is not to say that they were not on the road to coking up. Based on your filter description of black specs in the pleats, this may be an indicator that some ring type deposits were cleaned out. I would say without a doubt that the ring packs are healthy"

Auto-Rx always cleans out contaminants in any engine.

I agree he stated that and this.

But back to the original poster. There are other items out there that can clean. Perhaps looking here is not the best forum to ask; as history shows.

I have to agree with Crashbox here, "

dargo, I'm sure Frank would agree on that statement. I think what he is pointing out is that you can't always assume that just because you've done meticulous oil changes and just because everything looks fine you may get the false impression that your engine is "clean." It's no secret some engines are better on oil than others.

glennc what oils and intervals have you been using up to this point on that engine? HDEO's may actually be better at keeping ring lands cleaner than regular PCMO's, even synthetic. Just an idea. Also, prior meticulous maintenance would be another reason that the ARX did not improve things much.

glennc, your posts show a complete lack of experience with the cleaning ability of various products in a REALLY DIRTY engine. I can assure from someone who has used Auto-RX and MANY OTHER cheaper products in an attempt to clean it out, Auto-RX cleaning power is light years beyond anything else I tried. And I tried LOTS of things.

If you had a fairly clean engine, good for you. Mine was on the way to certain death as evidenced by the experience of thousands of other SAAB 9-5 owners. 70k miles later, my engine is much cleaner and still purring like a kitten. Sure there are other products "that can clean." But none do so to the degree Auto-rx does in the completely safe way it does. No oil thinning, no loss of lubricity. Auto-rx has actually been shown on here in tests to improve the lifespan of perfectly fine engine oils. No Slick50, STP, Gunk Flush is going to do all that. Period.

My final statement on this string is that there is going to be a benefit to any motor, regardless of age, from an ARX cleaning. If nothing else just the removal of some contamination will aid future oil changes and oil performance. In a nut shell, why put clean oil into a dirty motor, when you don't have to.

Some folks think that ARX will create miracles in any car or truck motor. These are generally folks that have used it as a last resort. And in most cases ARX can return sludge monsters to decent shape. But the greatest feature of ARX is to use it to prevent engine contaminants before they become a problem. ARX is by far the best tool to accomplish this. It takes virtually no effort at all, and works while you drive. How easy can it get.

Lastly there are no poor man's auto-rx products available that compete with all the attributes of the real Auto-Rx.
