I have been with State Farm forever.
The Sable has liability only.
liablity-100000/300000
$147 every six months.

The Camry. $398.07
liablity-100000/300000
property 100000
medical 1000
uninsured-25000/50000- no under insured
roadside
So $545.07 for both cars.

Travelers quoted me:
433.00 every 6 months.
Same coverage except under insured and non insured is 100000/300000

$500 deductibles.

Any experiences dealing with Travelers?
I did get a $20 gift card for Shell.

I save $112.07 every 6 months.

Go for it and give State Farm another look in a year when you renew.

They count on people getting complacent and automatically renewing.

Travelers is an excellent company. They have a great infrastructure and a very responsible culture that is customer-focused. If they were quoting a competitive premium, I would not hesitate to move your business to them. Travelers, Hartford and Chubb are probably as good as it gets.

Yes it does pay to shop around. After a few years of going with Farmers, I did some comparison shopping and found that with Mercury, I was getting my home and car, for what Farmers was giving me car insurance for.

The agent I had been working with (and was cancelling, now) asked me to give her a screenshot of the new policy with Mercury. She said that the higher ups didn't think their prices were that out of line, and that she would use this to show her superiors how high their rates are.

Of course, cost is only one side of the equation. Before moving to another insurance company, I'd strongly recommend looking at your state department of insurance/consumer affairs. I know the one for California keeps a record of something like "justified complaints," and gives a ratio of how many there are for each company, per 100,000 customers. It is a rough statistic, but it is better than nothing, for seeing what your chances are of getting a lot of problems the next time you file a claim.

Yes, it'd be a good idea to switch. Shopping around pays off. I'm with Erie and only pay $275 annually for liability on the truck.

Thanks for the input. I have been checking them out. We have been with SF for 20 years.
It seems I get a better deal with Travelers.
They just sent me a PDF file.
Looks good.

Travelers is a for profit company, while SF is a mutual insurance company; Travelers answers to shareholders then... policy owners. SF only answers to policy holders.

I have no experience with either (other than driving by the travelers tower in Hartford) but a for profit insurance company creates a conflicted business model from day 1; JMO.

Based on your logic you would think State Farm would be at the top of all the ratings. But usually they're at the bottom for some reason. I would go with a company with top notch reviews. Plus the Hurricane Katrina fiasco they were involved with where they denied damage claims, no thanks. They didn't step up to the plate on that one. Here's more about them:

^ They're a huge local employer here. Many nice office buildings you can see along the highway. Kind of like a campus.

We've had Travelers for a while. Wife had 1 at fault accident: hit a rock base of a bridge/culvert. The thing may have been sticking out in the road, we'll never know. $500 deductible on that one. Dog hit the rear view mirror and cracked the windshield. Full glass coverage, no deductible. Excellent service by Travelers and local insurance rep. Rates remained the same. Seems like the rates should go down slightly over time as the vehicles are getting older and less valuable. But who knows....

All insurance companies count on that. I've been with USAA for almost 20 years now and I didn't think I needed to shop around anymore. I just knew they had the best rates...low and behold I'm finding out they may not...

I worked for Progressive Commercial Auto for a bout a year in customer service, not sales. (Great company to work for!) they really educated us about insurance overall and on making comparisons. I've been with State Farm for over 30 years. One reason I stay with them is that they use O.E.M. Parts for repairs. I've been in 4 accidents over the years. 3 were subrogated ( State Farm took care of everything and then went back and collected from the other guys insurance). The other was at fault. They were great through each occurance. I've had to deal with Mercury once with another driver at fault, what a nightmare!

Sorry for digressing, Insurance companies don't all rate the same and rates are often affected by payouts and risk associated with specific zip codes and states and other factors. Think about what's important to you in filing a claim and service. If price is king over the other factors, stay with an A rated company and you should be fine. An insurance company will have made most of it's money from you in the first couple of years. It's important then to make sure you get all of the possible discounts you can qualify for. State Farm has a discount program similar to Progressive with the Snap Shot, was that factored in for you currently? In the long run, get as educated as you can and go for the service/price point that works best for you.

Try contacting a local independent insurance broker before you do anything.

They work on your behalf and can quickly gather quotes from multiple insurance companies.

Make two calls, call a broker and let them shop all their rates.

Then get a quote from Geico.

When I first moved to Texas, my broker got me good rates, but they crept up, and now Geico gets me much better rates than even my broker.

I had geico for 15 years in NY they are fine.

Call GEICO, ask for a quote. Give them reference # 199759. Always get the best price with them.
