Auto Extra FIlters from Amazon?

I ordered some black Wix oil filter from Amazon (so I thought) and I received white "Auto Extra" filters instead? They look like Wix except they are white and branded Auto Extra. I'm tempted to send them back as false advertising. Does anyone know anything about these? Does Wix make them? Thanks!

Sorry to be 'that guy', but you received what you bought. You can't go by the picture. It doesn't say anywhere that they are Wix filters.

That said, it looks like they use Wix part numbers so they are most likely Wix-made filters, but if they are white they might be equivalent to the NAPA ProSelect, which is their standard, but lower grade.

You did get what you bought, since it doesn't say it's a Wix filter. But, you do have a decent case for returning them, since the picture shows something completely different.

Amazon usually has good customer service, so if you want to return them it shouldn't be too difficult.

If you paid $5.72 for an Auto-Extra filter, you paid too much. These are about $2.00 each at Rockauto.
I do believe they are made by Wix..

I know it is a pain in the... but if you want a quality WIX "black" filter I would return the Auto Extra's and re-order. The Auto Extra's are kind of like a bulk shop filter. That might be fine with you and I would use them for a 3-5k OCI but not at that price.

I thought I was buying Wix. They are definately going back now after reading the comparison thread. I'll stick with Filter1. I was trying to get a small order with free shipping from Amazon.

I think you could have bought these on Rockauto much cheaper. I vaguely remember buying a dozen of them for $2.50/each.

Amazon.com (or any other seller of products) should not use a different picture than the product they are actually selling. Bad and misleading advertising IMO.

Just use them! I use these on my Miata with no issues at all. I've been really happy with these and got a great deal through Rock Auto. They're made by WIX. Here's a thread:

i bought mine (57060) off ebay really cheap ($2/each) and they are same as Wix and Napa pro select. good filter-well constructed and should do the job!!!!!

If the filter you are extoling the virtues of is anything like the low-rent Auto Extra shown in the link above, and here it is again,

then, with all due respect, I don't think you don't understand the difference between a good filter and a bad one. I'm all for savin' a buck but the one shown in the link is pretty marginal, if not wiz-poor. It has so few pleats, so little filter area, that if it has more than below average efficiency, it will plug up in a very short time. If it cost $2, I think that was about $1.50 too much. Sorry to be blunt.

The AE filter is pretty much similar to/same as Napa ProSelect. For those filter applications requiring a bypass and adbv, many if not all, now use a nitrile combo valve design. Not my favorite design, prefer the standard separate adbv and metal bypass.

I agree with ZO6 above, Amazon or any seller should not show a pic of an other than the filter being sold. In this case a true Wix filter rather than the AE.

It should be brought to Amazon's attention so they can make a correction.

yep I would return them. its not a wix and over 5 bucks each is to much for auto extra.

I do believe that AE is lower quilty than Wix/NG. No I dont have any proof just a hunch.

From my own experience don't bother emailing amazon you wont get very far. Much better service if you call them.
