This is off big boss vehicle. 2021 Chevy Traverse. I did last oil change 12,600 miles ago šŸ˜±šŸ˜±šŸ’€šŸ’€

Put a PZ 173 filter on with safety Kleen 5w30 blend.

40,112 on odometer. Bossā€™s arenā€™t like the laborers: they know their vehicle is supposed to have oil change every 7,500 miles (thatā€™s what we do for GM vehicles)

Oh well, itā€™s not my ride home šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

What I see of the oil, doesn't look terrible considering oci. I 'suspect' not worse because of lots of road miles, miles at operating temp. Sad to see any vehicle not maintained, but a 21, ugh. Yeah, filter not good, but obviously not intended for that fci.

Well, bossā€™s above him saw enough failures that we went to Pennzoil and ProTune

Worried what the Mexican made 57060 off the wannabe maintenance guys Ram with 6.4 HEMI will look like.

So, are the bosses above him more concerned about the jobber filter used, than running the oci seemingly implied in the OP? Personally, I'd be more concerned about the latter.

Conceding AE looks poor here, would the latter two filters look that much better at similar oci.

Well, bosssā€™s above him are cracking down on ā€œmanager typesā€ going past our mandated OCI. I finally went over folks head to source the MOPAR 0w40 for Ram 2500 with 6.4 HEMI

I said ā€œlook, Service Pro donā€™t meet this owner manual spec!ā€ They researched and overrode boss with topic vehicle. He was NOT happy. But, I donā€™t want to have dealer deny anything for us so I won that whizzing match

Adam-is Service Pro not Dexos 1 Gen 3? Thatā€™s what my indy has switched to on my company Transit 250 (not that as a Ford it necessarily needs Dexos, but it is allegedly Dexos rated 5W20).

No Service Pro isnā€™t DEXOS rated nor does it meet Chrysler spec
Ouch-Iā€™ll have to look into that. I get my OCIs & tire rotations done pretty religiously at 7500, & this Service Pro synthetic usually looks pretty good-Iā€™ll poach the next used filter & post it. Now Iā€™m glad I donā€™t go the full ~9500 mile OLM OCI.

I believe the 0w20 is DEXOS 1 Gen 3 though

So as I read it, using numbers given the implied oci/fci here, is ~27, 500 mi. Is that accurate?

Is so, as mentioned I'd be far more concerned about the lack maintenance, ie. oil and filter change, than filter used. AE a jobber made to AE specs.

Well, he went over 10k mikes couple of times. Other oil changes were done at other locations.

Makes me want to recommend the old 3,000 mile oil change rule to anyone with these basic "Value" type filters. I know it can be frustrating to see something like this & just be ignored. On the bright side at least the engine is still ticking but as soon as something catastrophic happens you'll be able to point to this as a possible culprit.

I love it when folks take a good well lit shot & then @ZeeOSix can zoom in on the main attraction. šŸ¤£

People should just spend the few dollars more for a better quality filter. Treat your vehicle right, going cheap isn't always a good idea.

I donā€™t think most people know or could tell any difference. How would you know about quality issues without regular filter tear downs?

I know without this filter forum I would be total oblivious. I have torn down zero filters in my life.

The oil looks like it's still decently clean and not like it's went way too long and the filter doesn't look like it's absolutely loaded, that filter just looks poorly made and shouldn't have torn even with the higher mileage, what's the standard oil change on one of those cars anyways? Was it within what was acceptable on the OLM or had they been driving it with the OLM beggining them to change it for a while?

You know for the most part if people don't want to research into things at minimum go with OEM and follow the recommended intervals. Reason being if problems are found within OEM filters they typically get solved fairly quickly.

And why did you come to this forum? I would assume you as a vehicle owner decided to do some research in regards to oil or oil filters and you ended up running into this forum? if that is the case you did what all vehicle owners should do if they are uncertain about something and that is do a little research.
