My sisters 1988 (!) Sentra came with a diesel section in the owner's manual, including roll starting on a hill. In a nutshell, get up to 25, and floor the accellerator when you pop the clutch, and wait.

There is another Nissan diesel that shared parts with a gasoline engine. They called it the RD series, which shares parts with the awesome RB series engines. I don't know how good those diesels were, either. One nice thing was that some versions were factory turbocharged and had 3V cylinder heads.
